The brick now pulls all my attention, so I guess it's best to do something with/against that. You could stone veneer or stucco the planter, but since you're thinking of a patio in brick, go with it.

How is the roof (condition) and are you planning on painting the exterior too?

I agree the brick needs to be painted or toned down a bit. The space next to the garage would look nice with a trellis and a vining flower (flower color possibly to complement what colors you use) Replace the garage door. get an expert to tell you what your lawn needs. I hope lots of folks give you advice, I'm curious what all you can do.Good Luck!

(Not sure how this got double posted, sorry) The roof is being replaced now, yes. The exterior will be painted as well. The chimney brick matches the planter brick. The fascia is being replaced as well. I like that vine between the garage area...good thought!)

What I wanted to say is, please pick your colors in a way it will all be tied together, for now it is not so much.

What if u Paint the exterior to blend with the brick to reduce the pop? Better than painting the brick maybe

awesome you are painting, that will make things look better for sure, I assume you will scrub and paint the garage door as well because that sure needed it. I would then take care of landscaping because that is the next eyesore. Assuming you don't have the $$$ for replacing the lawn, make sure you are watering and fertilizing it, put in flowers in the planter and elsewhere. Trim the tree so it's neat and lets in light and DOES NOT BLOCK FIREPLACE. Pull weeds, etc.

I would start by painting the house in a nice grey, maybe something like 1/4 Stonehenge. This is a resense colour from New Zealand but I'm sure there is a colour where your from the same.

I would the paint the garage door, front door and I window trims in the same colour but more like a 3xs Stonehenge ( a light nice grey on the house, a darker grey for the trim) I would also paint the brick in the dark grey to hid it and give it a more modern look.

If you we're to build you patio and use the brick, I would paint the brick the darker grey and would then redo the sodd in he yard, plant ever green shrubs, bushes, trees, replace the outdoor lights and hardware with chrome fittings or stainless, replace the front door maybe????

Stone and Stucco make a great combo and can drastically change the look of the home's exterior. Here's a few examples of stone and stucco combinations so you can see what they look like (it's a beautiful combo).

If you put a patio in the front, you'll want to put some type of wall or screen in front of it. I think the layering that would provide would add a lot of depth to a flat elevation. Also, no one will use the patio if it isn't screened from the street somehow. Be sure to check with your city, most have restrictions about "fencing" height and location. I'll look for a picture. I know I've seen some nice looks in Houzz.

Really cute house. I would say some landscaping is all you need. Plantings and pots of flowers can go a long way in adding curb appeal.

Oh, one more thing, a new, updated garage door would add a lot, too.

The garage door looks like it's pretty worn out. I would definitely suggest upgrading it for improved curb appeal, security and energy efficiency. Residential garage door manufacturer Clopay has an online design tool at www.clopaydoor.com. You can upload a photo of your home and try on different door styles. I would suggest a simple carriage house door design in low-maintenance insulated steel with some decorative hardware and windows. If you paint the house and brick or add stone to the facade you may want to consider a faux wood door. They are very popular, add a lot of warmth and character and won't rot, warp or crack.
