last modified: 9 years ago

If you are interested in ordering Ludwig's roses, I have a list showing many of the roses that are still available. Unfortunately, this site indicated my post was 14204 characters too long??? If you are interested in ordering, send a PM to me, and I can provide the list (hopefully via Houzz) and contact information. Payment can be made via Paypal or check.

Mine are due to be delivered today! Can't wait to get them! My RVR order should come today too :).

It's been almost a week since I emailed Wes and asked him a second time whether he was going to take new rose orders for Fall or 2018. There was no response....

Did anyone receive MEREDITH? I missed that one. I would have ordered 25 more roses this Fall if given the opportunity, but maybe that's all for the best and I'm being too greedy.

I've tried emailing too but no response. Prob a good thing for me bc I gotta stop bc I really really don't have much room left. Anxious to see them all bloom this summer.

Keep us posted you guys. I'd be willing to order more in the fall!

Just wanted to provide an update on one of the roses from Ludwig's. A few posts up are my first Purple Lodge bloom images. This is how the Purple Lodge blooms appeared two weekends ago.

    Purple Lodge...

I was blown away by the deep purple coloring. It is the deepest purple rose I grow. In person, Ebb Tide and Twilight Zone are not as purple. The velvety blooms remind me of Munstead Wood in that respect and make this rose special IMO. I think it is a must for purple rose lovers provided it is climate/growing conditions friendly.

Oh my I am so jealous! It's gorgeous! I wish I could find this rose locally.

Maybe this is one of the roses that can continue to be propagated by the grower, Cori-Ann, and it will remain available...fingers crossed...

As a confirmed purple nut, I am beyond jealous. What a stunning rose. I must have one. Wow. Lynn, you are so lucky. Diane

Yowsers! Can't wait for mine to do that! No buds showing yet....

I hope this rose becomes available. That purple bloom was produced during the recent high temperatures. I would purchase another P.L. in a heartbeat!

oh my, Lynn, that is amazing color... How much sun does it get?

Right now it receives sun from about 11-5, Natasha. It appeared un-fazed by the recent high temperatures.

edited to add: I do not photo shop/edit/color correct images. What you see is the best image capture I could get. It is prettier in person both in color and texture.

Beautiful blooms! How big has this grown for you?

P.L. was purchased this February and has been in the ground for a little over two months, so it is still young. It is about (16-18"). When I walked the yard today, I noticed that it had a lot of new growth.

    Thanks!

Do you have any images of your Purple Lodge, Cynthia? I am curious about the coloring of the blooms because images I see online do not look like mine, and my second batch of blooms, which occurred during the recent high temperatures, appeared different from the first set. I see dark shading on my first blooms that appear to be the color encompassing my second set of blooms.

Edited: It is likely that I will be traveling to AZ within 2-3 months. If it is so, a visit to Agave will be part of my itinerary. I will also report any information I glean.

Thanks, desertgarden for your feedback on Purple Lodge rose. I called Wes at Agave Farms, because I would like to have it. He has 8 in stock, but won't ship now, because it is too hot for bare root plants. The ideal time for me to receive it is in fall, because it is too hot for my area too. He said, not to worry, because it is a popular rose. The grower has thousands!

That's good to hear. Maybe the grower will have thousands of CANDICE as well!!

I never heard from Wes again and never got my plants (good thing I had not paid for them). Beth, how is New Imagine this year?

Desertgarden, my Purple Lodge has yet to get the dark tones I see in other people's photos and it's more or less a general hot pink/mauve. I can only find one photo of my own as most of the last year was settling in to put down roots and I only caught it when it had fully opened. Lots of great branching and healthy leaves, so I'm looking forward to better things this summer.

I'm envying your trip to Agave - we want stories and pictures!

I need to call Wes bc my Relais Chateaux is not! It's a bright yellow. Anja had told me she was out of it so took it off my order then Wes said he had one a few weeks later so it turns out it wasn't. Hoping for a refund or replacement.

The bushes are starting to grow better on all of them. A few others have put out a single bloom and have all been correct. Still happy to have received them.

Cynthia, Could your Purple Lodge have fewer petals because of the heat in your area? As per Help Me Find, Purple Lodge has 75-80 petals.

    I bought 1 Relais
& Chateaux too, will have to wait and see the blooms.

Mustbnuts, my NEW IMAGINE has shot up a massive cane with a big cluster! Should be opening in a week or so. Had a couple of nice blooms on the old part a week or two ago. I got it in the first order from Ludwigs, and it's in a 12" pot. I gotta get that puppy in the ground!

I would normally pinch buds off young plants, but allowed these for positive identification purposes:

    Intense

Snow Queen (white sport of Bewitched)

    Red Intuition...old & faded

You're welcome, Lynn. I got this one decades ago from Ashdown but saw it offered in the Ludwig's catalog. So I took a picture of it today in case anyone was curious:

Judy, did you talk to Wes about your Relais & Chateaux?

    Nice photos Romogen!

    Not yet. May try tomorrow.

JasmineRose, most of the petals were spent on my Purple Lodge by the time I took that photo, so it isn't a fair judge of the flowers. I'm pretty sure the rose is correct, and the buds that are forming this spring look packed with petals so far. Thanks for the encouragement though. I love the dark color of this one.

Judy, I had an initial bloom from Relais and Chateaux this spring too that had a distinctly yellow cast, but I wrote that off as an immature bloom. A lot of roses don't bloom true to their eventual form in their first blooms, so as long as I'm in the right category I usually let it ride till I see another bloom or two. Now the Sexy Rexy from Heirloom this spring that is blooming pure white semidouble with a daisy look? Hmm, don't think so.

Gasp, Romogen - that photo is exactly why I've craved Imperatrice Farah for a decade. I had it on order from Wes this spring but he didn't have plants available this spring. I have it on begging order for next spring though so here's hoping it works!

Hey Cynthia. Do you think it can have this much of a difference? I was hoping to order this fall and hope for a replacement for R&C if it does end up being wrong. Let me know what you think. When I called today they told me to send Wes an email so I did. Hopefully I will hear from him soon. Thanks

That's a wrong color, not Relais & Chateaux for sure, what is that? Anyone knows??

Perhaps it's SOUVENIR de MARCEL PROUST or it might be THE YELLOW? Mine hasn't bloomed yet, but I will post pics when it does....

I just stumbled across Purple Lodge for sale outside a flower shop here in Paris today, so I snapped a few pictures of the beautiful, fragrant blooms. It really looks very old fashioned. I'd love to know its ancestry.

That is great, John. Mine from Wes just started blooming.

    That's a gorgeous rose, Sheila!

Ok my second bloom on R & C is yellow too and still no answer from Wes after I emailed him pics and called. Guess I will just move it close to my other yellows bc it's a sore thumb where it is now lol

I can't wait for my PURPLE LODGE to bloom. But... it's probably the smallest of my Ludwigs roses. It'll be awhile.

Here's what has bloomed for the first time so far (yesterday)...

FILAE REGIS - kinda ho-hum so far. Was expecting that sorta greenish edge.

PERFUMERY - this was yesterday, and now today it's raining again, so I don't expect to see this bloom any better than this. Pretty coloring. And no I don't know what it smells like. Totally forgot to check, and besides with this weird weather my allergies are so bad I can barely smell anything right now!

ISIDINGO - I think I'm really going to love this one! Supposed to be a big climber. We shall see. This first photo was from yesterday morning. It's showing interesting blends of orange and peach with some pink.

This is the same bloom, taken later in the evening. The oranges turned to hot pink and the peachy tones are yellow. Looks like two different roses! Love it!!

Well, I actually did get another pic of PERFUMERY this evening. It has a nice scent. Kind of a sweet citrus-y scent. I think I'm gonna like it!!

Great blooms! Love the color of perfumery, Beth and now I want Purple Lodge after seeing Sheila's and John's pics. Bella di Todi is giving me some large blooms now - the fragrance is wonderful and I'm loving the buttery coloring. Fragonard took its time putting down roots but in the past week or two it has put on a lot of growth and is just starting to bloom.

    Bella di Todi

Judy, did you ever get an answer from Wes?

    last modified: 8 years ago

Here's BELLA DI TODI @ SJHRG last month. It grows large & blooms like a grandiflora... reminds me somewhat of POLKA.

Nice! I hope I get some of those fringed blooms in the future.

No Dave I never did get an answer. Think I will email again tonight and call again tomorrow. He was super nice so hoping he makes it right. Judy

I absolutely love my Bella di Todi and the photos of it above!

    Purple Lodge bloomed!

Oooh nice, Dingo! Mine is finally putting out some new growth, but if it tries to blooms now, in this infernal heat, the blooms will probably just FRY!!

My Purple Lodge in the Fall looks good. I got it from Wes in March 2017.

Oh Shiela I am so insanely jealous! It looks so velvety I just want to reach through and touch it (and pick them all for myself). I love the surrounding scenerey with the barn in the background too. Every view from your property looks so inspiring. You really have done an excellent job!
