It is it is my understanding that phals have few stomata on their leaves so I don't think foliar feeding would have much of an effect. I also think the few they have are located in the underside of the leaf and are closed during the day. Spraying at night would increase the chances of fungal problems.

Well that's my preferred method of feeding my phals. It does work.

My phal's leaves grew in wavy, pitted, and scarred. I almost tossed them out- I thought it was a virus. It was a nutrient deficiency. One foliar feed and they began growing normally again.

Experience is the trump card. But. I ran out of my foliar spray and its a seasonal item. All I have left is my AV food. So. Anyone?

When you foliar feed, could the drippings be getting to the roots? Orchids are not known for foliar feeding.

There was a study done on various ways of fertilizing orchids. It was found that the phals were indeed able to absorb the nitrogen through their leaves. Yes, they do absorb more through their roots. BUT IM NOT CONCERNED ABOUT THAT RIGHT NOW. I want to make a spray that I can use to fertilize my orchids. I dont remember garden web being so unhelpful

I just broke the flower spike off my mini phal so Im unhappy, somebody just give me a dilution rate to work with, even if it's for foliar feeding every single other plant besides phals.

Your question about trying to adapt african violet fertilizer for orchids might be one that can't be answered. You might ask for a recommendation of fertilizer type, but most will not have an answer or experience diluting fertilizers. Just get an orchid fertilizer at home depot. Brand is orchid plus...

African Violet fertlizer is okay. Any ferlizer when used on leaves I suggest trying 1/8 to 1/4 strength. Yes spray early in day. Do not spray on days it can't dry by evening. Spray extra some days and tip the crown down in for instance Phalenopsis so salts don't buildup. Idea is to flush the crown to not burn new leaves generating there. Avoid High Salt fertilizers like Miracle Gro solid forms so salt doesn't build up faster than normal.

All non arid climate tropical plants have stomata and can likely take in foliar feeds. Yes both leave sides have stomata openings for gas exchange and with mositure uptake potential. Yes the highest density is typically underneath. Orchids often close stomata, at least partially, when at low light. And they need to fertilzer nutrients when light is present to metabolize and grow well. So best guess is AM, as the sun is coming up before you go to work, is a best compromize time to foliar feed.
