POLL: Pool or Hot Tub?
Comments (94)Richard, I understand the frustration about pricing. We have a huge obstacle when it comes to putting pricing on the internet. Most consumers know very little about hot tubs and what makes one sell for $3000 and another $13K. What they know is size, number of jets and maybe some features. Unlike cars or tvs, hot tubs just don't have a huge base of common knowledge. Manufacturers have confused this even further by touting 'we are the best' with really no objective data base to make that claim. Thermospas is one of the only companies who post pricing because they have never been sold through retail stores with service staff and knowledgable salespeople to help customers buy the product that fits their needs. I think you will see more price ranges on the web soon, but without talking to a trained professional, and until there is some 3rd party helping to define the industry better, your best option is to go on line and request a quote from a local dealer, with local service and support for the hot tub. Then go see the product, wet test if possible and find out what the unique features each manufacturer offers. If I told you I sell a spa with 2 jet pumps, water fall, multi colored lights fits 7 people delivered to your backyard for $6000 and also one for $13000, which would you choose? Which would be the best product for your lifestyle? Price is NOT the defining quality in this industry and we love to educate customers about the many options that are available....See MoreGlowing Swimming Pool Tile - Let it Glo or No Glo?
Comments (16)We have not yet had the chance to install this product. I wanted to see, with this poll, how others would receive it, and what questions they may have. The sample we received today - took it out the box (USPS from TX on 1/30/15), sat it outside in direct sunlight for 5-7 minutes, took it in an office with no windows, shut the lights off and it glowed. It now has been sitting in our design center, not in direct sunlight, for about an hour. Just now took it back to the office, shut the lights off and it's still glowing! I'm sure that if something is directly in path of the sun to the product, it could have a slight effect on the glow (like an umbrella stopping direct sunlight, but you can still read a book under an umbrella, so this would be a chance for charge), but with the way the sun rotates throughout the day, it seems there would be ample time for all tiles incorporated in a project to charge before nightfall, allowing for a consistent glow. The sample in our office, is seeming to even charge off artificial light (something like the technology in my son's glow in the dark decal t-shirt, but more advanced!). Illumaseal says the product can even charge on a cloudy day, but would work more strongly on a sunny one. I would request two sample tiles, and set one in direct sunlight, and the other in a shadier area, then compare the two at nightfall! Good question Arbordale!...See MoreShould we fill in the pool?
Comments (59)I have read all the comments and agree with the idea of a deck or "floor" over the pool. It will extend your entertaining space, will cost less in the long run and gives a buyer the option of uncovering the pool or leaving covered. Also really liked the idea of covering with a roof and walls that open up in the warmer weather, however if you only use the pool occasionally this will not be a cost you'd be wanting. even before I read any comments I pictured a similar idea to the first commenter. Cover it with I'd say a composite decking (no rot, no maintenance) with a railing if leaving part uncovered or you can even get creative with a sunken oasis (water removed lol) at the far end from the house. think of the circular outdoor fire pit/ fireplace areas. Also, if deciding to cover, it can be done in stages as you have funds available to get it exactly how you want it. This pic shown can be incorporated into the pool shape and if you use dry stacked stone the pool can be made useable in the future if so desired. I think it would be cozy. drainage would have to be dealt with with someone who has that profession. good luck....See MoreI want to install the new solar roof tiles from Tesla!
Comments (53)Every pro/con perspective has been helpful toward my decision to implement solar into our household. For my mother's newly built home (in northern CA), the builders (Pulte) have a very attractive leasing/maintenance agreement for solar panels thru Solar City-Tesla that, after careful consideration of the numbers (based on a numerous factors & scenarios), ultimately made sense to go with. As for my home (also in northern CA), we have a lot of pre-installed skylights along our south side that make it difficult to install solar panels properly. Hence, the research into Tesla's solar roof tiles. I'm not one to jump into first/new tech - especially when we're talking about something as necessary/costly as a roof replacement, so simply keeping informed on any pros & cons keeps me in a comfy place. But, our old roofing is nearing its end of life. So for now, here's one article about Tesla's solar roof tiles that I found helpful:http://news.energysage.com/tesla-solar-panel-roof-the-next-solar-shingles/ As to costs perspective, here's another helpful article: https://www.inverse.com/article/35106-tesla-solar-roof-actual-price...See Morewyndyacre
