Pisang Ceylon

This is a Pisang Ceylon (mysore sub-group) newest leaf is out thought I'd share a pic. Hopefully it gets to a decent size this year!

    I have one too. It's growing outside, Southern California, climate zone 10.

    After they have a little time in the ground to get established, they can make it through the winter without any damage. I had another small one in a container that didn't make it though.

    It's supposed to be one of the best tasting varieties; from what I've read there are some banana connoisseurs that consider it the best. (to some degree that's more a matter of personal opinion and individual taste, however)

      This variety..Is compatible with explant method for growing the plant indoor in house o garage?(witouth terrain)

      I don't understand the compatible part**explant method of growing?

      I mean I would like to know if these variety (dward brazilian,ice cream,manzano,orinoco,and other acunminata ecc )if can be removed from the ground in October and kept in the cellar and replant in spring

      You can bare root them yes to save as much stem as possible. unless you have a looonng growing season, personally I find it takes way too long for all the roots and leaves to regrow. Especially if it's a bad spring.

      it is not certain that the roots take root? here in March we start with +8 +10 degrees celsius at night

      Where are you located? in Europe? They will root, just may take longer. I'm not sure if you know but to bare root a banana it's best for it to be at least 2 years old. If the stem is not big enough it will wither away. I know from experience:(

      keep in mind the plant just made it through winter, that's why the fronds do not look their best, although there were only two fronds that died back, it's about up to my head high now.

      Here's the other in the ground which lost all it's leaves. If it had been bigger I'm sure it would have done better.


      Basjoo full of green with it's new leaf coming up( these two planted same time, 4 -5 feet apart) you can see the difference!

      Here is an update on mine in greenhouse zone 9b. Pisang ceylons are taking over the gh. I have about 5 planted lol.
