Hah! I have some blooms today!!

Not maybe the best-looking blooms, but blooms nonetheless!! It's amazing the depth of color on some of them in the cold weather.

ANGEL BELLS

APERITIF - looking more yellow...

BILL WARRINER - a lot deeper coral color

ELDORADO - lacking the apricot-orange blush

MINT JULEP - this bud on my new plant began forming waaaay before Xmas

TOP NOTCH - lots more orange than usual

And then there's (some of) the chickies...

ESMERALDA - my poor Ezzie... she's a mean little bugger... not a happy girl very often and doesn't like to be touched... bites me any chance she gets... apparently has been so mean to Josephine that Jo has gotten into fights with her and pulled out tail feathers and hackle feathers. Right now I call her my "rumpless girl." She looks so pathetic. My neighbor says it's "time to eat her!" I could not do that!!!! I don't care how mean she is!

Beautiful flower and I just love your chickens. Do any of them lay colored eggs?

Oh yes! Henrietta and Gertrude are "Easter Eggers" and they lay lovely light greenish-blue eggs. The Wyandottes, Fred and Jo, have a lighter pastel peachy-tan color of eggs, and the rest of the girls lay brown eggs.

Here's Gertie laying hers earlier today:

I put up warm-white LED Xmas lights inside the coop and out in the run. They're on a timer from 5:00-10:00pm. The extra light helps keep them laying thru the winter. I get an average of 4-5 eggs a day. Yesterday I got 3, today I got 7. On occasion all 8 girls will give me an egg. I love these ladies. They're so much fun to watch. Silly girls. We got them initially to be pets and sort of therapy for our stressful lives. The eggs are just a bonus. I'm hoping to add 4-6 more this spring.

Wonderful, to have roses in late January.

If ESMERALDA is so mean, she will be too tought to eat. :>) Ha-ha. Good excuse.
