Going all white. Door hardware opinions?

Picture a 1990s colonial style tract house with skimpy pine trim and six panel pine doors with shiny brass knobs and dull brass hinges. Plain Jane, dated. All doors and trim will be painted white with most walls the same white. Going for a Scandi minimal mostly white, pale floor cloud house. What color would look best for the door hardware? Dealing with 16 handsets, 3 hinges per door (48). There are also 3 pocket doors with cheesy round brass 'plugs' in each side (6), 3 sets of bifolds (18 hinges hidden on the backsides). Hoping to move in five years so not going high end. Should I leave it brass? The idea of changing/painting hinges are killing me. Paint? New? Leave? Knobs only? Thanks for your advice.

you could leave it brass -- certainly acceptable, and even coming back in. some would want everything nickel, but honestly, that's a lot of work if you don't really care. maybe get a nice front door handle in an antiqued brass or antiqued nickel and don't sweat the rest? or change any doors in the kitchen to match the hardware there and leave the rest...

brass is fine. another option if you want to change is Rustoleum metallic spray paint. obviously you have to tape off the surrounding areas, but it looks good. I redid mine in an oil rubbed bronze and it came out well.

Hmm. Lots to think about with just your two replies! At least one handset has the lacquer worn somewhat, so I may see what it takes to remove it (googling looks like boiling the pieces removes it). That warm brass look might be ok. I tried a magnet - didn't hold so they seem to be real brass. I can just envision a kettle full of doorknobs simmering away!

I have to really think about those pocket doors - would need a craftsman to put a beautiful square peg in the round hole.

I've used Rustoleum spray paint on bad metal drawer pulls for a relative and was amazed at how well it bonded and covered (it was a black hammered metallic finish). I'm concerned about doing the hinges, wondering if the paint will come off with opening and closing regularly.

The front door will definitely get something new.

TBL...I am in the same boat. The house had brass hardware everywhere. I had to replace knobs because they were not locking anymore. I decided to go with an antique brass finish which is actually brownish and looks really nice. That way I didn't have to replace all of the hinges either. I am painting the downstairs doors white so don't know how they will look like yet. But I think it would have a classic look and I keep hearing that brass is coming back so let's see how it goes!
