Do you like painted furniture pieces? I've mixed in painted buffets for my clients that have had the same issue. Have you created a color palette for the room? Are you purchasing the chairs shown with the table?

Congrats on homeownership! Great idea to do one room at a time otherwise each room is half done and thats frustrating.

So far you have the basic palette started. Now its time to add in some color, whether its muted or bright depending on your preferences.]

Are you going to add in an area rug under the table?

Thanks! Our color palette for the house has been gray/blue (for the rooms that are done in the main living spaces). I would definitely like to add more color in, but I am someone who is afraid of going too bold. Our house style is transitional and my overall goal is to find as many "timeless" pieces as I can so that I don't have to redo things constantly. Of course changing accessories over the years would be how I plan to keep the space current. I'd love to add in an area rug, but that will likely be on the of the last things that I would do in the room. I need the function first more than anything.

Great plan. Typically I start with the rug and create my palette from there but you can also work it in the reverse. Colors that compliment the gray/blue palette are faded: blue/greens, gold. rust, lime, melon. As long as they are knocked back in color they will work well together.
