I've purchased two sectionals from Pottery Barn and have been very pleased with both. The first one is from 2007 and has a chaise on the end. The one we got for our family room has deeper seating and there's so much more room for decorative pillows and lounging.

I liked the variety of fabric to choose from, as well as the customization of the sectional. Both are incredibly comfortable and every time someone comes over they compliment the look and comfort.

Check out the Axis line from Crate and Barrel - the distance from the front of the back cushion to the front of the couch is greater than on most sofas (so deep) and they make a sectional with either a right or left chaise - and you have options for the non-chaise portion that affects the overall width. I am strongly considering getting one. I've had the 88" Axis couch for about 12 years and have really loved it but I remodeled and have more space and want a sectional.

Check out the King Hickory Casbah or for a little more, look at Huntington House. Each is about 48" inches deeps and can be had with blend down cushions. Each is well built and solid. I'd avoid the Restoration Hardware or Crate and Barrel stuff. It's just not well made. Spend a little extra more and get something that'll last a long time.

Patrick, do you know of other sofas that provide more seating depth than the typical 21-22" but perhaps not quite as deep as that Casbah (which is too big for my room and a bit too deep, plus I like a bit more arm height)? I'm willing to spend more than what a C&B sofa or sectional would cost me but I can't find anything. Also, a problem is that I don't like very many styles - e.g., the Kind Hickory sofas that look ok to me (but are too shallow) are the Angelina, the Bentley, Harmony (best of these three) - well, you get the idea.

There are many upholstery manufacturers who offer a "design your own" line. Some of these offer a regular depth & an option for a deeper depth. Also some of the higher end manufacturers will do a custom depth for an additional charge.

could you suggest some or tell me how I can find them?

We purchased the Embrace sectional from Havertys. My family loves it, & guests always give compliments. Oversized and comfy.

Hi DBug! I have the PB Square upholstered sofa w/ chaise and the PB Comfort upholstered sectional. The Comfort has deeper seating than the Square. If I remember correctly, it's only 5 or so inches deeper but made a difference to us as I wanted a row of continuous pillows to make it extra comfy. You kind of just sink into it. The wedge corner piece on the sectional adds to the comfort. My husband and guests on the taller side notice it is more roomy as well.

Your comment about looking into slipcovered sofas reminded me that before I got the pb Square, I bought two of their slipcovers to put over my old sofas and they were great. Slipped a bit but they weren't made for those sofas. Have you seen the pb slipcovered sofas in person? They look nice and I'd bet they're wonderful!

Got back on to add that even though their stuff can be expensive, the thing that always makes me go back is their customer service. The wedge's cushion on our newer sectional looked like the fabric wasn't sewn right as it was rather "loose" looking. They replaced it, no problem. I know other places have great service too but I'm a creature of habit and stick with something if I know it's good!
