Yes, a round table would look good with a great lamp on top..but...your furniture is so spaced out. I suggest you move your three chairs onto the rug and add a cocktail table in front of the sofa...replace metal lamp with lamp near pair of chairs.Add shelving to wall space where floor lamp is standing now. Art work would be a good addition too.

If you use a round table the chairs should sit angled. If you want them squared up, then use a square or rectangular table. The table should arrive within 1" above or below the chair arms. I find your furniture arrangement a bit cold and not conducive to conversation. All the chairs need to come to the rug, even if only their front feet rest on it. And the rug needs to be 12-18" from the hearth, slipping under the front 1/3 of the sofa. Try adjusting the rug and chairs. With the two chairs pulled onto the rug, you may find room for a bench under the window behind them. How about a coffee table 18" or less from the sofa?

One of the two side tables you see in our designs below might work well. Observe the lamp in the second photo as well.

I like a drum type of table in either porcelain or metal. + I do not care for the book case and lamp the wall should be semetrical. either 2 book cases or 3 lamps. Also why is all your furniture up against the wall move them out to the fire place

That looks like a french bistro table or pub table. I would think it was too big if that is what it is. I like the drum table idea but not much room for a lamp if you do that.

beautiful chairs by the way. what is the diameter of the table you have? i have one very similar that I had situated similarly but my chairs were huge and overstuffed.

Thank you for your comments. A few people stated that the chairs need to be pulled into the rug. I am posting the pictures below to show that moving the chairs isn't feasible because they would block the flow of traffic into the living room from the foyer and into the dining room from the living room. Also, I'm not finished decorating so a coffee table, accessories, and art will be added later and I think that will make it seem cozier.

Looking at the new pix, I don't think I'd feel comfortable sitting in the traffic path and cut off from intimate conversation with those on the sofa. Why not move the table and lamp from photo 2 to the window spot where the chairs are? Flank the FP with the two chairs and move the reading corner to the left side of the DR entry where the chair and lamp won't be so crowded. The wing chair can be brought nearer the rug area when you are entertaining and need it to seat all your guests for conversation. Place the tall cabinet on the wall right of the DR entry where the wing and reading lamp are now. Use the floor lamp judiciously where you have a "dark spot" that's poorly lighted. That may be between the FP and the cabinet, but you'll have to see when you've rearranged. I still think the rug should be pulled further from the hearth; not just for looks but for safety if it is a functioning FP.

It's a lovely room, and you have beautiful things. But the space will not look or feel "right" as long as all the furniture is pushed up and back against the walls. Before you buy a single other thing, I suggest you spend some time trying different arrangements. Pull things in, at least partly onto the rug, and see if you can't find something that works better, allowing traffic to move around rather than through the furniture arrangement.

I don't know dimensions of the room or the chairs, but might it work to find a larger, taller table (for games/puzzles) and move those two chairs and the table away from the window and closer to the corner? Then you could pull the other chair onto the rug and add a coffee table, creating two spaces in the room.

Another thought: could you bring the sofa forward towards the fireplace? That might ease traffic flow and create a more intimate feeling while highlighting your focal point (fireplace).

You have an incredible sense of taste and clearly do not need our help. But, since you're asking, I'd suggest a glass top table with iron legs between the chairs and a grey coffee table with iron legs in front of the couch. Totally would warm the room up.
