I would rather the same throughout the house and something that does not draw attention.

You should try to match them to the color of the floors so that they don't attract attention.

On carpet or tile, tone them in to disappear as much as possible.

On sand on site hardwood, the best is wood match stain perfectly flush WITH the floor, not a bulkier drop in. More expensive but very worth the look of the end result.

On engineered and pre finished hardwood, tone/finish in wood as best you can. Or use a blending metal.

Room to room matches are not necessary, match the FLOORING. Ignore other metal finishes. they are in almost ALL cases a utilitarian thing and better you DON'T notice them at all..
