Need advice on bedside tables

I posted this a year ago or so and I finally found some bedside tables that were (sort of) affordable. I would love your advice on whether or not they go with my space. The size is perfect I think (2 feet wide by 30 inches tall). Just not sure of colour. What do you think? I would also really appreciate advice on lamps if I do purchase these tables.

Tricky situation as it looks like you have a door on both sides that won't open all the way with nightstands there, right? Also, I saw Karen asked about the mirrors and I agree the tables should be a little wider than the mirrors.

Hi Combine-I think the color of the tables work well with your mirrored dresser, bedding, and flooring. I remember this post and loved your style.

As far as the side mirrors, I love them. I would not change them. (you mentioned that in your other post) I love how they relate to the dresser, add a contemporary flare, and work nicely with your headboard.

I found 2 photos-one where the mirror is wider than the width of the nightstand and 1 where the mirror is NOT as wide. I think both work fine. Can you bring the nightstands home and try in your space with the option to return if you don't love them?

Cross-post Ann, at first I thought the nightstand should be wider than the mirror, but then I found the above pic and I think it looks nice-especially since Combine doesn't have enough space to go with a wider nightstand. And, I do love the mirrors!

    Very pretty, Home Interiors!

Love the combination of the light finish with the dark base/legs.

@ Karen D.... You have a good memory. I think the picture with the smaller nigjt stands looks just fine. Maybe the trick is to get the lamps etc right. I wish I could bring a night stand home. I asked and they said everything is final sale. I LOVE the lighter wood in the pics too. That would be my first pick if I had a better budget, but in two years I have not found the right colour-size-shape in my price range. On a side note, I switched the chairs in my room. The ones that are there now are a little smaller and they are grey. Thanks so much for posting the pictures. I need a visual!

I really like the one you just posted and you re right....a lighter finish is better, isn't it?

And 2 feet wide is my maximum

With space so limited, I'm wondering about something simple like this C table (it also comes in graphite which would be nice in your room). The mirrors could stay as they are. Then for lighting, wall mounted like Karen's Marissa picture, mounted right above the outside top of the headboard, with the power cords nicely hidden behind the headboard.

Is there a way to make the dark one work? Or no? The price is Canadian and there is no tax right now. If not, I'm okay to wait. I have some ASH here....what does Ash look like finished? Is it lighter? I could have some made? Or should I just wait?

The closet doors opening out will definitely bump into the nightstands. But here's a thought: perhaps you can change the doors from swinging to sliding, which will make that corner far more functional. As for the nightstands themselves, you might consider white lacquered ones to create a bit more contrast from the floor. West Elm and Pottery Barn have a few you might like.

Here are a few lighter finish nightstands..price is good too! 24" wide

I'd go really pretty on the lamps, and I don't think it would hurt at all to bring a little bling surprise in there.

Your chairs are lovely!! Even more reason to go lighter with the side tables...soft and calm feeling...so elegant!

They don't seem as nice as everything else in your room.

    The new chairs are great.

I love the new chairs, but consider somewhat lighter cushions. Light grey silk?

Home interiors....thank you. I really like the Saul Nightstand. And the price! Only thing is, it's short. Perfect width and good depth, but 5 " shorter than I had hoped for. The height would be the same as that table in my bedroom now. Thoughts? You are right about the colour for sure

Love the chairs, Combine. Thanks for posting an updated pic. Nicely done :-)

I think the height will be fine you may want to lower the mirrors just a bit....when looking for lamps keep them on the tall side..and they always can be lifted with a stack of books or a large Ming decorative box....I think the size will work great and be a softer look!

I wouldn't like having the doors not open fully if they are your closets. If they are secondary or storage closets, you wouldn't be opening them so often, so a small bedside chest or table would work well. Then the problem is just the bedside lamps. Look at some wall sconces you can hang with the cords tacked behind the headboard. (There are specially-made staple-shaped tacks for this purpose) For me, having tissues and/or a book available is important, so the minimum I would need would be a sturdy wall-hung shelf on each side of the bed.

Here are some lamps that would work well in your space...all over 30" high and some great prices..all under $150 each

Rina, I changed the pillows....I had these ones on my bed so I switched em.... Is it better?

Thanks so much. I see that jossandmain have a good return policy if they don't work
  • 9 years ago

Gosh, I am having theee best time walking down Memory Lane with your room! LOVE it even more!!!

You need to trust your gut as look at what you have done.....and it looks great!!!

Gotta love a good return policy with a good price. Sometimes you just have to see what it looks like and FEELS like in the room.

Hi Combine. I like the darker cushions on the bed. I do prefer the lighter ones on the chairs, even though they are the same as the upholstery and therefore not particularly interesting. However, with the bed as the focus of interest, I think it's fine that the chairs don't draw a lot of attention to themselves. But yes, do trust your gut. 'Tis a good gut.

Hi abbyjean! Thanks for your encouragement and I'm so glad to hear from you

Looking at the pics above of the few dressers, which one should I get? They are close in size and price.... Has to be ordered tonight!

    1) SAUL NIGHTSTAND

    2) KIERA NIGHTSTAND

The one with the hole in it is a little more substantial in weight and depth and width

    HELP!

    ......has anyone ordered from Jossandmain?

I am so torn. Actually, looking at the pics again, there is something about that trunk by the bed that I really like. Not sure I have noticed it before. You might need a few nice books to stack under a lamp on there, but I love that look, too. Then the lamps could be the same height. I am not sure about matching night stands and matching chairs. I think the chairs have to match....and I do love them, but the night stands, really do not/should not in my....book.

Also, not sure if you drink coffee and/or wine while sitting in this room. Is there room by one chair for that cute table that is by the bed now? Love the style of that, too.

I have not ordered from Joss and Main, but have read good reviews from bloggers. Is the substantial one the one you are leaning towards?

Ugh....never mind. Shipping to Cananda is $225 American! Plus duties and tax and switching to Canadian dollar. Heck:(
  • 9 years ago
I would love a small table for between the chairs. I have coffee there often and it drives me nuts that there is no table.

Maybe I could buy the original table I posted and if it's too dark, get out the chalk paint?

Are there any Canadian companies similar to joss and main?ikea?

Oh! I also have fabric left from my headboard and hoped to cover a bench for the foot of the bed. Open to thoughts and ideas on that one too
  • 9 years ago

I love benches at the foot of the bed......but wondering, with the chairs there, would you use it or just have pillows on it?

I would love to see a pattern on the bench as no other real patterns in this room. Trust me, I am neutral through and through, but still find the need for a pattern....small tweed or plaid even, using the neutral colors or one fun accent color.

Go with your original plan for the night stand. I like it....a lot! Thoughts on the trunk staying????

Could the trunk go at the foot of the bed?

Even though I LOVE the plant between the chairs, I really think the smaller night table would be good there to hold your drinks and a book....lamp maybe, too? Can the plant go across from the bed, in front of one of those windows?

I agree with you abbyjean. At night, I love the lights on the little tree as it's such a lovely feel in the room, but I also like to look out the window. I don't really want the plant in front of the other window as I'll have the same problem. When I find a table, I'll just move the plant to another room

If you decide on a bench I would not match the fabric from the headboard..somehow when you do that it takes away from the headboard..keep it special and do a fabric that complements it or adds some texture!:))

The trunk. I bought that trunk when I was 13 and it has been everywhere with me. I love it, but I feel like it needs to be somewhere in this farmhouse besides my bedroom. Not sure if the pics show it, but it's really orange-looking when it's sitting on these floors...the floors are sort of grey-brown. ...more grey. I did try the trunk a couple of times at the foot of the bed, but it looked too rustic and too small-didn't like it. I appreciate your words on pattern. I am happy to do that if it's quiet and I think it would look nice

Home interiors....hi! That's funny, I have just found that site and have been looking for the last hour! Thank you! They actually have the ones you chose yesterday too.
Home interiors. I didn't know that about the fabric...thanks. Any ideas what I should do with it? It doesn't look good as a blanket at the bottom of the bed...I tried that, but the colour looks too green (it has a slight green undertone, which isn't as noticeable in the headboard
  • 9 years ago
The sale ended and I ended up not purchasing the end tables....still searching on Wayfair etc for some time n my budget...it will be a few months likely
