Hi. You've got a lot to work with! Here are my ideas: First, a patterned rug, in a larger size will help unify the room and add a feel of luxury. Second, your Coffee table is too small to be floating between your sofas. If you are up for a new one look for a large, square one. If you want to keep the one you have, pull it closer to one sofa (no more than 2 feet from sofa) and make sure you have ample end tables for the other sofa. As for the fireplace wall, I would add a mantle ledge over the fireplace surround and paint all of it the same color as your book cases. Love the burgundy accent color so play that up in the rugs. Not sure what you window treatments are but Roman blinds made of bamboo or some other natural material would add needed texture.

I'd unify with paint. Then add a much larger rug.

To be honest, your best bet would be to nuke the wine colored firebox in favor of a pale neutral stone tile to blend with the tile in foreground, ......and free yourself entirely.: ) Forever.

Why not try painting it the same color as your built ins? White might look really nice. Refer to our designs below for some ideas.
