Oh my this is a very good result. Good job and good growing Beatrice! I think it would be fair to expect more flowers in it's next blooming as both of it's parents can produce up to 4 flowers per scape. 3/4 Papilio is a papilio that produces 3-4 flowers per scape. Jungle Lady produces 4 flowers per scape. Both parents are robust growers and performers likewise so I hope this seedling would perform well for you also. Congratulations! It has inherited well Jungle Lady's exotic genes.

You're most welcome Beatrice and thank you for posting pictures of the result. I have released hundreds of seeds of Jungle Lady crosses and this is the very first one reported or shared with me. Sometimes I do wonder about them...if they survived or die, if they are ugly or pretty, or is it even worth it to breed Jungle Lady. Looking forward to Jungle Baby #2!

However, what would be interesting to be able to observe a large number of descendants ... we can not unfortunately do this in our small interiors. Fine or awful, I will post the pictures of the next to bloom ;-)

Oh my....pretty and majestic like it's parents. This one takes more of it's seedpod parent I think. Thanks for sharing the results of this cross. You grow them so well! This is one reason why I now try to use performers in my crosses. A pretty flower is useless if the plant is weak. I hope resulting seedlings of my other crosses would perform like this cross. How inspiring!

I fully agree with you, the vigor must accompany the beauty, and I wish neither to persist to preserve nor to multiply too fragile plants. (I speak thus for the hybrids, the botanical species, they can be fragile and give birth to vigorous hybrids ! )

I love species and drool over their pictures. Lol Unfortunately, they just die in my growing conditions so I now avoid them (except papilio). They do so well with you though so good luck with your crosses.

Donna...I have not done this cross again. I think...lol. I'll try to do it again if my 3/4 papilio blooms. It did not flower for me last spring for some reason. If it does not flower again, I'll try to pollinate papilio X1 which regularly flowers for me. I know i tried Madame Butterfly X Jungle lady and 2 attempts failed. That would have been a very good cross. Que sera sera.

These are Glorious!!!!! I don't know how I hadn't seen this thread before. Jungle Lady has passed amazing genetics to her children and grandchildren. Wow! The first seedling is superb, I absolutely adore it. Jungle Lady is so full off movement, she is a dancing lady. I love the shape and patterning of the second seedling as well, and it looks like a vigorous grower. Congratulations to you!!!

What a spectacular Butterfly :-))) I love her shape and markings too. Papilio always seems to lend it beautiful markings and exceptional vigor to it's offspring. Thank you for sharing.

Ha ha JL ! I impossible to take a picture outside , wind and rain...for change :-( I had to bring the plant into the greenhouse for having natural light .

Mine do the same thing. I think that's why there's the "improved" Doran strain out there masquerading as a papilio species in order to create a more open open and desirable bloom.

I think that seedling # 1 will eventually give you 4 flowers but my heart belongs to #2!! The color of them both is beautiful, pink is the best!!!!

Those are gorgeous flowers and pictures, Béatrice! Congratulations! I don't know what you can improve here but the number of flowers. Chico seems to be a good idea to keep the form and get more flowers.

Actually, I do like the first two, not as much as the others of course, but I'd be fairly happy with the first one. The only thing weird is that stamen sticking off the petal and I doubt that it will happen again!

The last one looks like some of those expensive hybrids Komoriya sold a few years ago! Lovely profile anyway! ;-)) She looks like she's been running against the wind, in both directions!!

I think doubles have the stamens on the petals sometimes. Maybe it wants to be a double...

Oh my gosh, those stripes! That beautiful raspberry pink with that creamy pale green...Oh my gosh, I'm not even making sense, but they are all lovely! And I kinda like the curly edges on the petals of a few of them. They look very charming. If I saw them in a store, I would scoop one up in a blink! :)

There are another 4 bulbs from this cross. :)

They are small, so it will take some time for them to bloom.
