picture placement

first time posting here,be gentle:)

i have a picture that i need to hang on this wall.It is about the same with as the chair.

chair needs to stay where it is,even tho it looks off center to wall it is centered with the chair opposite .my thought was to put picture over chair, then to the right in the open area, some other form of decor, sconce, mirror, metal wall art. not sure yet.or would you ignore the chair placement and center the picture on the wall.

any thoughts? thanks

Sorry still me just was playing with my profile and name. In the above post i meant to say the chair is about that same "width" as chair. i think the picture is 36x31 here are some other pix.living room is right off the kitchen.ignore pictures over white dressers those are being changed out for larger and taller. main question is centered or not centered.

thanks, yes i was hoping to add maybe a large sconce or somthing to the side as a grouping i know the wall really needs a bigger picture but this is the one we have :)36x31 something along these lines maybe? As far as arrangement?

Does anyone ever read in that chair? Do you ever turn on the small lamp on the white chest near it? It looks a bit too far from the chair to be useful for someone in the chair. A floor lamp would fill up space on the wall and be useful for lighting at night.

no reading in that chair.sometimes i sit there with my tablet. i do have a floor lamp but i thoughtit looked to crowded ?because if you look at the other picture the entry wall sconces are right there..

I don't see the picture..I see the mirror only..?

(don't worry 36 by 31 is a great size...to me it is lol...can't afford a big painting yet, I mean one I love..well I have all the great candidates saved in my Pinterest though. very heartwarming..))

i did purchase a larger art though, very recently, but not a painting..and still not up the wall..need DH for that.)

you can do a grouping of course. a gallery of sorts. very cool. just play with the placement on the floor first.

i'm not great with galleries unless the pieces are not too precious to me. if they are-i immediately feel like this piece is too important to put in an arrangement, and that piece is too important...

if they're not though-everything is simpler. takes some time and consideration, but you don't get all emotional like you have to arrange a wedding or something lol

i do like the floor lamp next to the chair. it's like this chair now has a companion. they look very natural together. the lamp is slim, so no, i don't think it's crowded

ah, now I see the picture. well better later than never lol. ok..my opinion stays the same. actually i think it will look great.

I would use some blue painter's tape on the wall to mock up where the pic should go. I think I would move the floor lamp a bit to the left, then center the pic over the chair.

I just had to say your home is lovely, and I hope you'll post an update when you get the picture hung : )

Thank you all for your comments.I think i will pick up some blue painters tape and map it out on the wall. i just cant get used to that floor lamp there since its so close to my entry,(see first photo) also there is a floor vent there,so it mite not stay,it doesnt bother us not having a lamp by either chair,we mostley sit on sofa. As for picture,I will try both, centered on wall as well as chair and see how it goes.i usually have good instincts, but trying to make things fit from old home to this new is just is not working. more shopping! oh darn :)

Have you considered moving the white tables? I think they would look good moved to the adjoining walls on each side and function as end tables with lamps for reading. Hang the picture just above the table. Hope it works out. Think it will look good.

Lol,they were recently purchased especially for where they are on each side of fireplace.moving them could be cause for divorce :)

May be even easier to cut a piece of cardboard the size of the picture and move around til you like the placement.

Great idea maggleq,I still have a big peice a the box the white cabinets came in.should be able to put to good use

Eww... wouldnt want to cause a divorce. Guess I like the tables where they are. Good suggestions on deciding picture placement.

Have you tried moving the ottoman over to the chair by the window and then pulling the other chair down a little towards the light switch? I think that wall could handle a side table with a chunky lamp on top. I'd remove the lamp in the left hand corner so everything doesn't match up 100% with the other side of the room. It might make it easier to place the picture too.

my pictures must be a little deceiving, as to room size.the chair in question, and the sofa are far closer than must be showing.that is why it is positioned where it is so there is walking room between the two. moving it any farther left on wall won't work.i do have a small narrow side table from mother in law I mite try on the left. Each chair has an ottoman. We're are looking for a round coffee table so everything is not so tight.

Yep.... it fills the wall, that was otherwise bare till now. I added a small side table from my mother in law to the left for coffee, and laptop.picture was more colorful than expected, another plus .
