Don't know that I have any pictures.....but I piece backings usually with 1) as few seams as possible and 2) by adding extra fabric in the middle of the backing - almost always vertically. Hope this helps.

I don't have a pic of the back. Can't believe I didn't take one before giving it away. This is a schematic of how I pieced the back for a 72"x84" quilt. The long-arm quilter wanted an extra 4" all around.

I don't have a favorite way because I don't like piecing backings, although most of the time I have to. I guess it's the same as Teresa if I have to name a favorite. I have also done a center large block (anywhere from 18 inches up) and sewn strips around all the sides (sort of like a log cabin block) until it's big enough to make a backing.

On my chemo quilts, I do as vasu, without the insert. That makes it about 80 in. top to bottom, and since the quilts are anywhere from 60 to 70 in. I have a good sized piece to use elsewhere.

On a large quilt, I do as Teresa does, seam vertically.

The only backs I've ever done have been in a single fabric. I piece them horizontally or vertically, whichever way uses the least fabric.

Whenever I've pieced I have tried my best not to have the seams on one side line up up with the seams on the other side. Sometimes that can be accomplished with the backing pieced diagonally.

I have broken needles when attempting to pierce a gazillion layers. Well, it felt like a gazillion - I may have exaggerated a bit.
