I've never planted hoya seeds but my experience with other seeds says to plant in fine soil. But get 2nd opinion. ;-)

Yes, I did it in fine soil too, I think it was AV mix w/ some perlite added. I don't know what your chunky is, but I'd skip bark mixes for seeds.

If they're from January, they may no longer be good (maybe too old). Folks say Hoya seeds need to be very fresh. I think mine were less than 2 wks old, if I recall correctly.

I did it with 1/8 inch orchiata bark, 1/8 inch perlite and coconut coir, even ratios. Dampened everything with warm water, shoved into a tiny rubbermaid, tossed seeds on top, and put the lid on. Opened lid every 3 days to air things out. They developed and grew for all of two months...I killed them (accidentally) with high summer heat exposure.

They are probably still viable. Just plant them and see! I think they can be slightly older than a week old.

They are most likely still viable. I received some from a Thai vendor that took 10 days to arrive to me. A few never grew, but many of them sprouted just fine and are now happy little 2 month seedlings.

Do you just mist with plain water? I was told to just mist the soil should I have watered it?

I don't do anything. Just place on top of warm, dampened media, and put a lid on it and on top of heat mat. Air out every 2-3 days. The coir, combined with the lid being on, creates enough moisture. Once they are big enough to transplant into my tiny 2 inch pots, they will be "hardened off" to my plant room's normal conditions.

IF the media dries between then, I mist. No watering, as there is no drainage.
