Ah! Possible good news! My white bauhinia tree looks dead. Maybe it's still alive!

Thanks for the update on your "frozen" sweet almond verbena! I, too, thought that my SAV was a goner, but new leaves have sprouted along most of the branches and I will wait another week or so to determine what is truly dead and prune at that time. At this time, most of the plants/trees that appeared to have been killed are sprouting leaves or coming up from the roots, with the exception of my jatropha (which I believe will sprout later this month)

Remember I was concerned about sudden death on my SAV? They endured whatever plus freeze and they're completely back from roots, branches, everywhere.

now, there are other things that I thought would weather freeze but are not showing signs of life...

My white bauhinia tree: nothing, nada, rien, zilch....It grew like 10' in 2 years!!

Molly and Bossy, I'm glad to hear your Almond verbenas are showing signs of life too. They are strong plants and certainly hardier than I thought they were.

Omar, your Brazilian orchid tree might come back from the roots. No sign of life on mine yet either, but it's usually late in leafing out anyway.

Mexican olive is leafing out all over. Satsuma has flower buds. I'm very surprised that the night blooming jasmine is putting up a sprout from the bottom. I thought sure it was a goner. Floratam grass is getting green again.

It sure seems like spring! Have to keep reminding myself it's not.

Hopefully so, Roselee, but the purple bauhinia tree came back already and it is younger than the white one...

It does feel like spring. I have some daffodils, coral honeysuckle and oxalis blooming.

Omar, those same plants, as well as Texas mountain laurel, sweet olive and winter honeysuckle, are blooming in my yard too making it hard not to believe spring has sprung.

Roselee, How did your shoestring acacia do? Mine looks questionable at best.

My Shoestring acacia was already stressed from all the rain the last couple of years. It did not grow at all last summer where in the previous two years it had grown about four feet a year. Also the foliage was sparse last year and many small twigs were dead. Unfortunately, the freeze finished it off and we had to remove it. I'm just glad I got to enjoy it for a couple of years. It's one gorgeous tree!

There are several growing in Austin. One of them is shown here in photos 14 through 17 on Pam Penick's blog: Digging. I'm very curious to know whether it and others survived this last freeze.

Yay! Did it come back from the roots or is the trunk leafing out?

From the roots. The whole 10' trunk seems dead. I'm happy though. I thought I had lost it.
