The only pomelo I deem to be worth growing... and waiting... is the Chandler; it is pink, quite sweet, nearly seedless.

Thanks, but unfortunately chandler isn't on their list. I'm in Florida and need a place that ships trees. Harris is the only one I've found with pomellos. I'd really like a Tahitian but I can't find a source. Why do you say waiting? Do they take especially long to fruit?

Pomelo is one of the slowest to fruit, maybe because of the size of the fruit and the age/size of tree needed for production. Even in my climate (Guatemala), my grafted pomelos on Macrophylla root (very aggressive) did not fruit for 5 years.

Strange, I've seen fotos of pretty small trees with a good amount of fruit. Oh well, I'm growing plenty of other things to keep me busy in the meantime should my tree take that long to fruit :). I'm also in a tropical climate and since pummelo is the tropical citrus, seems like I should try growing one. I'm planning on getting an oroblanco also, because I know I love those and it will come closer to filling the grapefruit void. I've eliminated Siamese Sweet (I've read it's flavor is flat and insipid), but I still need help choosing from the other 3. (Unless someone knows where I can get a different, better variety shipped in FL.)

I don't not know about citrus but other kinds of fruit trees delay fruiting on vigorous rootstock.

id just do the hirado, it is well reviewed.

thanks for the response. that makes sense about vigorous rootstock if the plant is putting a lot of energy into vegetative growth. i am leaning towards the hb, of the three it seems to get the most "positive press" :)
