What look are you going for? Any colors that you're drawn to? You can easily do white, which is popular and will do well with what you have.

Alternatively, you could take the lightest or darkest color from your counter and use that.

what a great space! you could do a lot. I like a dark navy w/your flooring. you could do the island or maybe just the lowers, with uppers white.

Love this shade too. and it will work w/the red you have in the adjoining room. do a few pendants over the island, bring in a red rug, voila!

or an off white, it would work w/counter and splash. (still do the island a blue or even a green)

this gray green is also a nice shade, especially w/the brushed gold hardware.

with your warm floors, i would not do the ever trendy cool gray!

I am drawn to white but fear it may be too hospital feeling or not as cozy/warm. Not sure how white would do with our floors and maybe I'd have to change the wall color.

Yes, definitely an off white/creamy color. Would you reface or paint? I prefer cabinets that aren't as flat but more woody, outward design....hard to explain what I mean.

i think your cabs are perfect. no need to reface. do you like it all the cream color or does doing the island in darker color sound good? your place is open enough that I think it would look good. at the very least, I might reface the kick wall of the island.

Your cabinets are fine. The wall color is too light. Find a new backsplash to tie in a new wall color, put some new color on the island maybe and just change the top of the island.

Oh, it seems such a shame to paint such nice cabinets! They are neutral and easy to work with other colors. I think the only thing " wrong" with your kitchen is the backsplash. I would replace it with something in a nice solid cream. Then paint the walls a new color to add some interest.

OP said she didn't like the tone of the cabinets. too yellow for her. the backsplash is pretty neutral. changing that isn't going to make the cabs any less yellow. The surrounding wall color should probably be changed and it might tone down the cabs a bit.

I like the idea of a darker island! Also am open to repainting the walls and perhaps updating the backsplash

I would not to anything to the cabinets.....at least not immediately. Your yellow-toned walls are arguing with the cabinets and not serving you well. Paint the walls a white primer and step back to re-evaluate and imagine choices. I think a different backsplash would work wonders in your kitchen - something less "splotchy" and more subdued since your countertop has a busy design.

Wall color is too green, which is making your cabinets look more yellow-orange than they are. I think in the context of a cooler paint, you might find you don't need to change them anymore. Either painting or refacing will be a major $$$ investment, so be sure you can't fix the problem with a simpler approach first.

I like the cabinets also - not the backsplash. I think the walls need to be a darker gold. Saying that, I'm planning to paint my shiny-light oak cabinets a cream with a glaze, and paint my island black. Love your countertops!!

Well, that's the dreaded 1990s "golden oak" color that most people come here wanting to get away from, so it seems a shame to darken your relatively light cabinets to that tone! I think I might see how far a better paint color and lighter backsplash would get me first...

Cabinets are possibly maple? Ours both yellowed and pinked over time. It is so fine grained that they took paint beautifully. Ours were painted off white and our counters were a Silestone dark green. We loved the paint! Loved it!

If your on this site asking, just take a 5 gallon bucket of white paint and just start throwing it everywhere until every little bit is covered. People on here will be saying "beautiful transformation" in no time. My favorite will be " I love the colors" LOL.

Be wary of people throwing around the word "dated" cause everything is dated to them unless its recently been in a magazine of good housekeeping. In a year your gonna have to change everything again. Don't be a yo-yo.

In all seriousness, the last picture you posted is fine. Good classic design that will always look good other then the wood floor. I personally don't think wood belongs in the floor of a kitchen.

I think your kitchen looks fine the way it is. You said it looks yellow. Maybe you can try and paint the walls a different color. You'd be surprised what a difference a little thing like that can do. I see what your talking about (yellow) in the last picture. It looks fine in the day so this means its lighting trickery. Try changing the bulbs to a cool blue LED or something. That could do the trick.

It's the wall making the beautiful cabinets seem too yellow. I'm with the many "Likes" who say, keep the cabinets--they harmonize with your floors beautifully for one thing--but change the wall paint. I know, I know, not the question you asked.

What if we went darker and mosaic backsplash?

It's hard to get maple to take a dark stain. And a big project. do you mean getting yours refaced? Again, it's up to you. I think yours would look great in a cream w/a dark island, but it's your home!

Paint/spray cabinets dark grey. White or off-white walls. See if you can get matching granite for the backsplash as large tiles or sections.

I feel sorry for your beautiful kitchen, which harmonizes so well with your floors and provides color contrast with your furnishings. Painting cabinets white, espresso, gray or refacing is such an extreme solution. The right wall color could totally change the yellow/orange effect.

I'm with spreguec upthread, who got 7 likes, because he/she is right. Sometimes I think there are only three cabinet colors allowed on Houzz and all those decorating shows--gray, espresso, and white (I have white cabinets and appreciate them because of my particular kitchen, but your hubby doesn't want white. Your cabinets are just right for your space and style.) Staining the cabinets dark will just suck light out of the space, and you already have dark furniture. If you're going for matchy matchy to your dining chairs then stain them, but your kitchen looks great except for the wall color. Beth's wall paint suggestions upthread are worth trying so you can affordably try something easier than trying to turn those cabinets into something they're not.

We are really leaning towards refacing the cabinets in a darker color (cherry or coffee), as my husband really doesn't like white/creamy kitchens. With our style of kitchen, would shaker cabinets look best or raised panel? I would like a mosaic backsplash.

I like a shaker. as for mosaic, (make sure you do not use the countertop 4" splash in conjunction with your new backsplash) those linear bars can look a little dated. I might look around for some other mosaics. have you visited tilebar.com? they got in some new backsplashes that are gorgeous. plenty to look at. they will send you 5 samples for $5.

I'm not sure where you are located but recommend finding a great painter who can refinish your existing cabinets to the color you prefer. I would avoid an all white kitchen if you can. I would select a stain that looks like a light greyed driftwood.

I think I would go with a distressed cream color, or dark brown....maybe both...doing uppers light and lowers dark. Can I ask about your pantry? Is it walk in? The same depth as your wall? I'm trying to do something like this in my kitchen!

The pantry is a little deeper than cabinet depth....I wish it was a walk-in!
