Looking for your input - curtains, lamp, tables

I recently painted the living room (valspar sugar and cream), and put down a new area rug. I have sheers hanging over the windows now, but I would like to add some curtains will a bit of color to pull the pull from the blue in the rug. The window faces north so not much sun comes in, especially during the summer when the tree out front is full of leaves.

We haven't hung the painting back up, so the room looks very bare for now. The couch is sage/grey. The fireplace is grey/concrete stone, with a slate hearth. If you have any ideas on curtains or floor lamp and tables/book cases to put in this room it would be much appreciated!

If you go with a pattern the background of the drapery should be dark to make a statement. See in the image below, it's not any better than your sheers because the pattern gets lost in the room..

I see a brighter blue in the middle of your rug. You could go with curtains in that color, or pillows.

That is the color I wanted to bring out in the room. I just can't decide what type of curtains to get a solid or a pattern. Looking at the following:

Aina curtains in blue from IKEA

Scribble Lattice in sage/blue from West Elm

Madison Park Maren from JCPenney

Better Homes and Garden Ikat Scroll

eclipse Tricia thermal weave in River Blue

I think grey curtains might end up looking to dark in the room. Looking for input and ideas. Am I going in the wrong direction?

Too much gray and blue in a north facing room is going to be dreary. Can you find a pretty pattern with a white background and some contrasting warm colors, like red, orange or yellow to add to the blue? That would brighten it up and warm it up.

There is nothing wrong with an all grey/blue room provided you supply a variety of textures and some black accents to add a bit of drama to the space.

hmmm, does not show other walls or even if it is a chair? is there a tv spot? these type of differences truly do effect the comfort of all furnishings.

No, there is no tv. Our front door opens into this room, which leads into out dinning area and kitchen. I attached the layout as it currently stands, I forgot to take more pictures this morning.

All these ideas are making my head swirl, but I love seeing them! Thank you all.

have you thought of a different direction? a nice table, maybe round as you enter, like where the other table is shown to the right, but make it stick out. so you can put flowers on it.

Then on the wall where the chair is: a very elegant desk with 1 or 2 chairs for making out donations etc.

then a couple smaller chairs with a table by the window. rugs for each of them.
