Anybody know what those really tall skinny trees are named & which zones can they do well in?

    They are called Italian Cypress trees. You can probably do a search to see what zones they do well in.

    they also may be "sky pencil" variety.

    Mka is correct, those are Italian Cypress. They do well in Mediterranean climates and will work in others as well. Just look it up. There is also a variey called Tiny Tower that is smaller, but hard to find.

    some trunks get to 6 feet wide so be careful with choice
