Yeah. It's normal. The vine tip dies back a bit, causing the vine part that survived to become woody. Also, some new nubs (in MANY species) just come in woody! No clue why!

To get the plant out, you are gonna have to tap quite a bit on the sides of the pot (I bang my tough ones against a table, lol...the pots, of course...not the plants). Expect some minor root breakage from the ones that grew out of the drainage holes. You can probably gently tease most of them out of the holes, back up into the pot, if you are careful.

Thanks aurorawa. This is the only one with that kind of growth. Of course, it's also my only plant of that species so I wasn't sure if it was normal. It grew a peduncle but lost it, dagnabbit!

So... you think it needs repotting then? :D Actually, it was sitting up an inch from the bottom of the pot and there was a little bit of water in there that the roots had grown down into. Am I right in thinking that is the basic idea of growing semi hydro? (minus the roots growing through a pot bit)

With this one, I'll probably cut a bit of the pot apart to help get the roots out unharmed. Plants, huh! Everything has been growing so well here. Except my poor polyneura. Not sure what happened there, think it got too hot. Was growing, putting out peduncles ect then we had a few very hot days and most of it's new growth went crispy. Now the whole plant is yellowing and looking very sad. I took a couple of cuttings of some healthy bits but I think it's a goner :( Yet my other cold lovers are fine so who knows.?

So.. update time! Chiang Mai was still complaining but started to do some sort of growing and looked like this last November. An improvement I thought.
