Oslo Oregon walnut dining table

I have just received the table. It is not at all the color as quoted "red espresso walnut". It is a gray color which is at odds with my other furniture. You mention "a satin finish." Is it possible for me to give it a coat of stain or polish to darken it?? Min-wax, or a similar polish??
Please answer. I am disappointed.

    Hi Patricia,

We are very sorry to hear that you are not pleased with the color of your table. All of our Oregon Walnut dining tables, including the one pictured on the Houzz website, are a mixture of heartwood and sapwood. The majority of the tabletop is always heartwood, which is the "red espresso" color, as we describe it. It ranges from dark red and maroon to lighter shades of red or light rose, with hints of purple. The sap wood is the lighter wood, and it ranges from grey to cloudy straw color. These are always the accent areas.

With Oregon walnut there is quite a variety of color in the grain and no two trees will produce identical wood. But what is most common between them, and most distinguishing, is this red-tinged heartwood. The walnut that grows in the eastern United States is more brown.

Both the heartwood and the sapwood in Oregon walnut will generally darken over time.

Could you email us a photo of the table in your home, during the daytime? We are curious to see how the color looks in your space, with (at least somewhat) natural light. And we would like to speak with you on the phone, as soon as possible to discuss this with you further, and come up with a solution that satisfies you. We would be happy to call you at your convenience, or if you prefer to call us, our number is: (503) 752-7022.

As for changing the finish to alter the color of the table, that can be done, but it would be a fairly substantial project. It would entail a professional sanding off the current finish, applying a stain, then reapplying the original finish.

Again we are sorry that the color was not what you expected. This is the first time we have had this reaction from a customer, and we look forward to speaking with you soon.

    Sincerely,

    Andrew & Amanda
