Tile over Tile! Boring backsplash dilemma resolved with tile mural

Tile Over Tile! idea for Kitchen Backsplash over stove · More Info

Our customer had a plain subway tile backsplash and monotone color scheme is his vacation house condo. See before picture below. The dilema was that the subway tile was already installed and he wanted to tile over the existing tile. Normally this in not an issue, if you use a strong mastic, but his subway tile unevenly protruded from the wall. So he mounted our colorful Sunflower Party tile mural on a board and left off the 4 corner tiles. Then the board was screwed to the wall (through the existing subway tile) and then the four corner tiles glued on over the screws and voila! instant color and conversation piece

      What an interesting idea. It’s a way to actually hang a picture over your stove. Although I suppose you’d want to consider the material of the backer board with regards to flammable materials near the stove. Still, I like the concept very much, better than the tiled in approach as you can remove it or change it without a huge amount of fuss.

      Subway tiles were all the craze early last year and now its boring? LOL Thats what I've always been saying and thats why I never follow all this trendy modern garbage. But anyways, good job. Looks more inviting now. Now what are you gonna do about the plain, boring, cheap looking white cabinets?
