Suggestions for high ranch

last modified: 9 years ago

Hello everyone

I have a high ranch home.. cramped, awkward entryway as soon as you walk in with a flight of stairs on the right up to the kitchen, living room, dining, etc, and the flight down to den area on the left.

We will be extending the entry way hopefully sometime next year but we are redoing the complete upper level right now. We are putting in Mediterranea's tile, Atlantic City from the Boardwalk Collection throughout the upper level which I will attach an image of. It is a bit distressed, lots of grays, taupes and a little beige. In real life, it is more gray than anything else. You can see in the images I have but we are mid project and not grouted yet.

My living/dining area is somewhat open concept there is a small wall separating kitchen and living room where the peninsula will come out of. Long wall in living/dining is dark gray, the rest are light. I will also add images. The bump out that is not finished yet will be white stacked stone with a linear electric fireplace. (did not touch any of the interior doors yet).

So here is where I am stuck and looking for some suggestions:

1. Stairs - What to do.. The downstairs will be a different theme than upstairs so did not want to do the busy gray tile on the stairs. Sand and paint original stairs? Or pick another tile that would compliment both color schemes on each level? I do not want any hardwood or carpet. Also, nothing too slippery obviously.

2. Window trims/doors - Everything is very gray besides the white stacked stone around future fireplace. What color would you do molding around windows and door/molding colors? (understand this is a flooring forum, will put this in appropriate area as well)

I appreciate any suggestions and apologize for my rambling!

entryway goes up to kitchen, where tv/computer is in wall where peninsula in kitchen will be, room standing in is dining room, and of course looking forward is living room. White stacked stone will be on that bump out w/ fireplace.
