Need an opinion on this granite

The seam was done very well, but they didnt match up the pattern on the granite from one side to the other. It is off by 3/4" and is very noticable at the lower end of the counter where the black in the design just falls off at the seam. Can anything be done with this now that its already installed?

That is a shame. Shouldn't be. My guess is they were trying to get as much done with the fewest slabs? Would that be correct? Did you go to the fabricator to lay out the slab for the various areas? Did they lazer template the countertops? No way to fix this other than replace it. If you clearly stated what you wanted and paid for that approach, I would tell them, sorry, doesn't meet specifications, now what? Can you get more of the slabs from same "bundle"? Might be able to get another slab cut to work better? Hard to tell from just the one picture. Talk to the GC and the fabricator and see what they suggest. This wasn't done properly unless, there is additional information we don't have?

It is a good seam! Installers did a good job, the fabricator didn't do a good job cutting the slab.

Hmmm . . .The thing with any natural stone counter you will have variation of design. When I cover up the bottom part of your pic, the rest looks presentable to me.

The problem I see is this was from one slab, and it should have been two in order to get the "match". It needs what we call a "bookmatch". In other words, two slabs from the same bundle, but cut so they match at a seam. I will post a photo of how this should have been done.

There is a seam where this pattern is joined. Pricey to do because this is specially cut granite. Your granite is beautiful and if this was your expectation, you have a argument for replacement.

Yes it looks like it wasn't book matched. When I did granite in my last small home I had to get 3 slabs all book matched. The fabricater told me this prior to me shopping. Still it doesn't look bad. Maybe a pretty fruit bowl over it.we all have boo boos they bother us less as time goes on. Good luck

I agree it's not perfect....still, I could live with it. The actual installation was picture perfect.

The "seam" is extremely good. The pattern match is decent. Without purchasing another FULL SLAB as book-ends (at the full slab price tag), this is a very good install.

If you wish it to be better, you will need to repurchase everything and pay for removal/install of the new product. The work that you see is very good and is considered acceptable (above acceptable actually).

Unless you paid a premium for a special service like book matched granite, you received a very suitable counter. If you have no issues with the quality of the work, describe this to yourself as custom and artistic with imperfections that highlight the natural material.

It's a natural material. You buy one slab and it has to be cut up. It is not a perfect science. It is art with it's imperfections.
