Does Hoya Undulata lose its splash when grown directly under lights

Susan let me know that some splashy plants like the Hoya Pubicalyx Super Splash and the Cv. Michele will lose some of their splash if grown directly under grow lights or in too bright of light. The splash comes out better when grown in shade.

I think that Wibergiae (i think that's the correct spelling) will still get the splash if under my grow lights.

I just received my Undulata from Thailand on Tuesday. Its pretty and the leaves have an iridescence that i feel can only be picked up in person. I want the splash on the subsequent leaves to be as much as possible.

Will i be better placing this one under the lights or a bit away from the lights to the side?

Honestly, I have never experienced a difference in splashing in low light vs. high light. If I have a "splash" variety, it stays splashed. Some leaves may have more splashing than others, and I notice no difference between the splashing, even in varying degrees of light, both artificial and natural. And I have tested it. I will post pics of my latest test (gotta test multiple times to get any real data) when it is complete.

Sweetheart, my mix is equal parts perlite, orchiata bark, and clay turface. They are all small size. I have to put screening on the bottom of the pots to prevent the mix from coming out.

Aurora, I would love to see pics. I know that my 'Super Splash' Pubicalyx does not grow leaves as splashy as the ones that were grown in Susan's care. Also the Fungii splash has VERY little splash in the new leaves compared to the old and even my Pottsi Splash leaves are no where as splashy as the leaves grown in Thailand. What am i doing wrong ? lol

I only need to look at my sigillatis and sp. SR-2010-049 (grown in exclusively high light and neither are cultivars or sports) to make an educated assumption, that at least, for non-hybrids/non-sport cuttings, that light has little to no role in the amount of splashing.

Even in my caudatas, some of which I strongly suspect are either sports or cultivars, I see no difference in splashing. And some of those were grown in my lesser-light (natural, south facing, frosted window) bathroom, for quite a period of time.

I still think it all has to do with whether or not the sport/cultivar is stable.

I know cv. Michelle regularly puts out highly splashed leaves, regardless of light, for me, but for another grower, not so much.

I am one of those who does not notice any difference in splash, whether grown in shade or filtered sunlight. I don't put my hoyas in direct sunlight, as I have very warm sun here, being in the high desert. Even in winter it can be a bit much for many plants. My new leaves on Pubicalyx 'Super Splash' are even more heavily variegated than the old ones! They are just gorgeous.
