C. Fdk. After Midnight x ??? Query

This plant still has an older green growth with leaves and the newer leafless psb that still has three large buds. I've been watering the plant lightly about once a week. I don't want the buds to blast. Now there is a new psb starting from the base of the older bulb. Will the flowers continue to unfurl if I quit watering?

Hi Sheila,

I have two: one is C. Fdk. "After Dark-Black Pearl" and the other is Cycnodes "Wine Delight," which I've only had about three months. My "After Dark," which I've had since last year, got watered maybe twice all winter. However, once they started growth (about three weeks ago) I started watering them and the new growth is growing quickly. So it's not clear to me why you would stop watering at all? It's not spring yet for sure, but they don't seem to be aware of it!

There's obviously something I'm missing here!

Hi Judy. Fred Clarks writings on culture say if watering is resumed while growths are too young without visible roots they would be too susceptible to rot. I do want this plant to grow! It had a difficult year last year, so I thought some TLC might be in order.
