Sample paints are great! Since you're going to paint them, paint your sample color or two on the cabinets and that will give you a good visual.

I agree it does give it warmth.... Figured it would modernize the look a bit. Maybe I leave the island wood and paint the cabinets on wall white or light grey?

Also if I paint I may do some kind of reclaimed wood on the island kickpanel.... that would warm it up?

And the furniture you see is not staying.... our furniture is more rustic/ industrial/ modern... and have multiple pieces with wood to warm it up...

Not a pro, but I think the wood warms the space up, and it looks pretty modern to me. Except for the countertop, maybe change that out and just wait on the rest because I think it's working better than it would as painted.

If I did countertops then I would also do cabinets..... one thing leads to the next.

Trying to limit to painting it.... or just live with it and change out hardware.

why dont you just get paint samples and test them out on large posters. it might not be super accurate, but itll be more accurate then photoshop.

in real life, you can get an idea of how it would look and feel right in your own kitchen.

Sorry but I think it would be a mistake painting them medium grey. The current stain color is perfect as-is. Your issue is layout not paint color.

The current stain goes better with rustic furniture than grey painted cabinets. I would leave everything until you can do a complete redo to expand it all. The current kitchen is as big as most people's bars and you look to have plenty of room to have a full kitchen or galley.

You've been discussing this for a while and you seem to have your heart set on painting them so I would go for it. Chelsea Grey is greenish medium/dark grey. Your counters are very dark. The point is, there will be little contrast.

Full grey kitchens like your examples are already on there way out. It's very trendy. Just be careful going down the grey rabbit hole. Your home can quickly turn into one note.

But so much of our furniture(not shown in this picture) is distressed wood I feel like it makes it too rustic with these cabinets....

Then maybe add accents that compliment your rustic furniture, like adding brass or metallic end tables, colorful plants/planters, pillows, rug. Think modern rustic. Check out Modernica, CB2, and West Elm for inspiration. If you have a rustic overload with little balance, I would focus on balancing that room out, not paint the kitchen because of it.

Maybe start a new thread and post pics of your current living space. I think your kitchen is a very nice, and doesn't need cosmetic changes.

Wait to do anything until after you have your furniture in the space, and live with it a bit.

furniture in it now is "left over/ extras" used when we were renting it out on airbnb - (which we have stopped due to regulations/ high cost of permits in our city- frustrating). So we are moving other furniture into it from our other house and getting rid of most of the existing furniture.

or what about any idea for the kick panel area - maybe some kind of an accent or tile over the wood panel ?

Keep it as is. I like the west elm stools.

Hi if it was my kitchen and was doing something temporary I would change out the countertops to something lighter with some movement in it. Nothing too busy like the older granites. I would also change out the barstools to a more modern look to compliment the new countertop. Adding some hardware would also give the cabinets life, maybe in a satin gold. Contrasting the metals can give the kitchen interest. I do like the pendent lighting but i would probably paint the rods gold. Also adding some coordinating accessories to for the counter tops(but not matchy matchy) would bring it all together. There are no rules anymore. Do what makes you happy :)

speaking of satin gold hardware......i do have 30 of these pulls that its past the return date on amazon..... i did a test fit....but need more gold to contrast.

paiting the lighting is a great idea....any recommendations on a gold spray paint?

I would just go to Home Depot and buy a can of the Rustoleum. Wow what luck to already have the hardware. If you can find some stools in a gold metal that would look great, Or in any metal and you could paint them. How about using a gold container for your lg kitchen utensils or maybe a vase.

Oh and if you want a little more gold and make a statement how about changing the faucet too? I also have just begun the process of redoing my kitchen. Gold is also the color of my hardware and faucet. Am a fan of the look, am so over the stainless look. Good luck.

No pics yet but am doing a two toned kitchen. Top cabinets in a high gloss white slab, bottom in a chocolate slab. White quartz counters. Brick veneer backsplash (like the loft look) Thought that the brick would make kitchen more inviting and not not so modern and sterile. Satin gold hardware and faucet. One bowl rectangular sink. Stainless steel appliances with a nice range hood, am so done with the microwave over the range! Haven't quite decided on the exact quartz or backsplash. Wish me luck.

Yes, yes, Yes! Was thinking the exact same thing. I would use wood looking ones against your white backsplash. Another thing I was thinking was possibly painting the wall above the hood. Maybe a color you might be incorporating from your living or dining room. If not, then how about a large clock or maybe some wording. Will try and upload some pics later. Have to ask my DH on how to do that

I love the wood look. It appears you have solid, quality cabinets. This is a before and after of one wall of my kitchen remodel.

You might be able to remove the cabinet finish and bleach them out. Do you know what kind of wood they are, if they're solid doors? A matte finish could make them look more modern, also. Maybe just switch everything out to see if you can achieve your look - but I don't think paint would get you to a modern looking cabinet. I'd play up the traditional/modern mix somehow.

I would remove the cabinet or at least trim it out. Would not paint it white, i think it will just look out of place.

Paint the wood medium grey-not the blue greys. Use gold accessories. Warm the kitchen up with modern gold. If you are not afraid, considered another color, but do go grey. Add transitional bar stools .
