I believe those are cabbage moth caterpillars. The best way to deal with caterpillars is using 'bt' spray (bacillus thuringiensis), such as "Thuricide". Another alternative is "potassium salts of fatty acids". I use cold pressed neem oil and peppermint soap spray and they do prevent and kill the smaller caterpillars too before they get too big, but 'bt' will be much more effective.

Looking for caterpillars poop trail is a good way to detect them on your tomato plants.

For tomato horn worms, they can get very big and eat a lot of leaves mass. If you have keen sight you can detect their eggs on the leaves before they hatch.

I'd just pick off any of the caterpillars you see and crush them, then I'd clean the leaves and check for eggs... then watch to see if any new ones appear.

Agree with party-music. It doesn't really matter exactly what the caterpillar variety is as it is the same treatment for all. All you have to do is pick them off and squish - simple. Then remove any damaged leaves and rub off any eggs you find with your fingers.

If you mean the brown dots on the tip of the one leaf in the pic there is no way to tell from a photo. One would have to have a MUCH closer look to know. A common magnifying glass will give you your answer. It could also be several things including insects. Just remove the leaf.
