you just need the two needles.

row 1: k3tog put that stitch back on your left needle. Cast on 17 stitches to your left needle. Then do a k3tog with stitches from the right needle and purl off 15 stitches from the right needle. That should leave you with 25 stitches on the left needle and 16 on the right needle. The rest of the rows you are going back and forth something like short rows. Then on row 9 you bind off ear 1 and start all over with 28 stiches on your right needle

Most likely many years ago when I was doing lots of knitting I could have figured it out. I have not really knitted anything for maybe..... oh my gosh more than 30 years. How time flies, no time after going to work full time.

The baby shower is coming up in April. I gave up on it 2 weeks ago . I have decided to give it one more try with some help.

I had it totally finished but when it came time to finish and the yarn was to pull together the head I had a problem.

The stitches did not pull up into a round head and the adorable ears bent over and and there was no round looking head . I ripped out all the stitches back to row 62 and now on row 63.

Row 63 says to knit into front and back of each stitch across the row.

Is the pattern instructing me to simply knit across the row? At least this is the way I did it the first time but this might be where I made my error for forming the head.

Maybe the problem was the shaping of the ears, It just did not come out correct.

nope knit front and back is an increase so you are doubling the number of stitches in that row. how to knit front and back of a stitch

Oh, yes, you are correct. This is very clear. Thanks, now I will do these 3 1/2 inches . At this point I am not sure what I had a few weeks ago.

And, to think I am trying to teach my friend how to do a simple knit and purl. She is struggling with learning it. She promised me this morning in the next few days she will get back to practicing what I showed her.

I start out by teaching knit using the Grandmothers Favorite Dishcloth. You learn knit, yarn over, and knit 2 together plus cast on and cast off on only a few stitches. At the end of the "lesson" you have a cloth to use to scrub dishes. Only takes a ball of cotton and a set of 10 inch size 8 or size 9 straights. Purl you can introduce later

oh and that fancy blanket I am making uses ONLY those three stitches knit, yo and k2tog ;-)

I have finished the 3 1/2 of the stitches for the head I am certain this is not the area that was not knitted correctly and now ready to start shaping the ears. Perhaps it is the ears although the ears looked just like the pattern.

In the first post at the top of this post, you had explained to me how to do this I thought it was easy but maybe this is where I messed up.

Explain to me if you wouldn't mind on row 1 of the shaping of the ears.

I am sitting here with my needles, All 28 stitches are all on my left needle. After knitting the 3 together this stitch is now on my right needle. Do I just slide this one stitch back onto the left needle and thencast on 17 stitches? Because if I do this now I have all the stitches on the left needle along with the original stitches?

Dorothy, I like your idea of the dish cloth, she could have something to use when finished. I think I will pick up a skein of the cotton for her. She is currently using my size 8 needles but was thinking of increasing it to a 10 as she is having a hard time with this size of stitches..

Are you currently working on the blanket that you are speaking of? Sure would like to see it when you are finished.

I am at work right now but will look over the pattern again when I get home and try to take some photos for you tomorrow. Yes I am currently knitting the lace border onto the garter stitch square then this gets a fancy edging added to make an elaborate looking blanket that is all knit, k2tog and yarn overs. AND done in a worsted yarn on a size 7 or 8 needle.

I picked my friend up some cotton yarn for my friend to knit a dish rag. How many stitches does she need to cast on for the 12 x 12 you make?

Reading over the pattern and your instructions in the earlier post I feel I did this part with the ears correct. i will go ahead and finished this bunny one more time. Your instructions are very clear.

Back again, the bunny is finished a second time. She very cute and looks like it did the first time I finished it. The head still does not finish up like the pattern. The next time I get into the city, I will go to a yarn shop and have someone look at the pattern and at what I made. Perhaps they can figure out what the problem is.

Actually, if I just make a face on it this might be ok like it is. The problem then would be the bunnies face would be flat.

We'll see what I do with it. I really want to see what I did wrong.

Dorothy, just wanted to let you know about the blanket buddy. It turns out that I knitted the head and ears correct in fact the whole blanket buddy. The opening was where I had a problem. The pattern just did not make sense. Instead of me trying to draw the final 12 stitches tight with the yarn that was to be weaved through I was to pull the stitches apart and this created the opening. I did not discover this until I was ready to take it apart again just to look at the final stitches.

I started taking it out and separating these 12 stitches on two needles and discovered the place to stuff this for the head!

I know the way I have tried to describe this does not make sense, it is hard to explain. Thank you for your help as I sure could not have gotten very far without your explanation in the beginning.

Grrr, to think I took apart the head and the ears two different times and did not need to.

Thanks Donna. My friend made a pretty lavender one, she also struggled trying to finish her cute bunny. She also had to take out stitches and start again trying to figure this out. I might make another one now that I know how to do it. As the pattern was really pretty easy up until the finishing of it.
