In my opinion adding more would just make it crowded. The rug under the coffee table is too small, getting a larger lighter rug would be nice. The painting behind the couch looks out of place and too narrow for the space.

What about the dining room table, candles/flowers?

Not liking what's on these shelfs, aside the darn Knights that my hubby loves, it can all go. But no idea what would look good..I suck at detailing. Lol

Overall, it looks really nice!

For the dining room, I personally find it a little odd to have throw pillows on dining room chairs.......they might be better without. The mirror feels it is hung a bit high, too. But really, I am just nitpicking. ;-)

Looks nice, but if I were to make one change I'd place the dining room mirror elsewhere & hang art, something with color on that wall. Also, I'd add some larger ceramic, metal, glass vases or pottery in the shelves & group the three ceramics on the top shelves together. Just little tweaks.

I would add some greenery to soften it up.

What colour of pottery?vases?

Where would you put the greenery?

Maybe some of the colors from your art over the sofa?

Or aged brass, small print(s) on easel(s) for the shelves would look good,

Pops of color would be good: throw pillows, vases in bookshelves, art on dining room walls, etc. yellow, orange, red, even hot pink --or you could go with the blues and greens

yes, you need color - things are looking too bland and monotone - introduce contrast with color, texture (baskets, wovens) and some drama.

Take some risks here.

This rug would work in your living room. See how it not only introduces color (I chose red because you have a touch of red going on in your book case) but it introduces pattern as well? Note how the cream will pick up the color of your very cool sofas.

Consider a red runner for the dining table or red round place mats. If these were textural (woven fibers) that would be ideal.

If you don't like red as your accent color, then pick another color.

Lastly the art over the sofa needs to run horizontally not a vertical rectangle as what you have now. Try and fall in love with a more dramatic piece of art.

Introduce a few living plants.

Then your rooms will start to come alive.

PS - two different and dramatic table lamps on your side tables would be better also.

I'm with culinarybabe here; for me the tone that's missing in this palette is live greenery. A big ficus lyrata potted in your dining room corner could bring that whole space to life. Think you've done a beautiful job with the trims, surfaces and choices here, but I'm definitely of the 'every room needs something alive' camp so it stays feeling fresh and avoids sterility.

Love the interior french doors you've got going on, but I do agree that the living room area rug is too small here - and I'd also say a bit too textural. Something more transitional could help connect to the more classical shapes your dining room set and light are doing (and molding throughout, too).

I'm also a little curious about the end table next to the sideboard with the very large floral, too. Is it absolutely needed? Always looks off to me to have two table surfaces directly adjacent. Cheers!

as for the end tables, we bought the set loooong time ago-before this house and it seems thats the best place for it. I can definitely move it.

as for the reg rug, I think I am not brave enough for such a huge splash of colour as red. The shaggy rug that's there is definitely too small (it was meant for another room) and I have hard time imagining anything but solid with the busy drapes. I was thinking going with something that's in my other room, see photo, but again it's the darn brown. Lol

this room at least feels finished to me..the accent is yellow.

Are you "staging" to sell? Or just decorating for yourselves? It makes a difference in the answers.

I hope you make beautiful memories in your forever home! I love what you've done, thus far, but I do agree a color which pops is needed. Lime green goes great with lots of beiges and browns, and green is, after all, the 2017 color! Try bringing green into the rooms with plants, with your rug (which should be larger), and some art/ pottery. Whatever you do, love your home:)

Color living room colors

You have a lot of dark wood in the dining area. I would remove the mirror, it's to heavy looking and the dark frame is overwhelming. A large painting would be a great way to bring in some color. Remove the table runner and have a large bowl with green apples or lemons but slightly of center, not wack in the middle.

Fill in the area under your bay window with a variety of plants - if you bring that pic to your nursery, they will be able to help you select the right plants for that area.

Kristin, funny enough...I already had the rug at home! Lol...the brown was too orange/bright (hard to explain) It didn't go with the dining room...different feel

the cabinet under the window is to close to your end table. I would move it under the mirror. like the orange you put in the room but don't think throw pillows belong in the dining room
