Oh My Gawd! Roaches!

In an on going effort to clean up my shade house I decides to clean up my extra pots...stacked "neatly" inside each other. I knew it might be infected with roaches so I took each batch of pots into the chicken yard adjacent to the shade house. My chickens love to eat insects, including roaches. (Yep I eat those eggs)

So I take a pair of 15 gallon pots into the chicken yard and pulled them apart. NOTHING could have prepared me for the number of roaches nesting in there. Roaches (maybe 50+) scattered everywhere. I was freaking out and the chickens were freaking out because I had scared them with the pots (pots are different so they were a little jumpy). It took a minute but then my girls tore up those roaches. Other pots produced more roaches. Some got away :-( but not many. A good day for my girls!

I still have to clean up my clay pot area but the rodent problem seems under control. Things are looking up.

Time to do my science experiment and cross a Hoya with a Venus Flytrap! Lol.

Lol Brad!!...I'm a screamer and I hate roaches!!...That's why I love lizards. They eat roaches!!

Nice to know we have other forms of life that will take care of roaches, be it animals or plants :). Even though I was terrified of them when I was younger, I appreciate spiders and their natural pest control. I adore the Garden Spiders/Orb Weavers that come into my garden each fall. Mum feeds the birds, plus we live in a valley with woods and farmland, so there are plenty of birds to help with the bugs, as well.

I have to admit that if I ever master Hoya pollination, I am tempted to try a cross between Hoyas and VFTs or even a Nepenthes. :D. The Nepenthes are found in similar areas of the world as some Hoyas. Hmmm.....

A large part in why I love living in Colorado where bugs are small and usually come in small amounts when together lol. But, if I ever want to have a greenhouse and grow my Hoyas outside year round I guess I'd have no choice but to deal! Yuck!
