I feed my bin at least once a week. I've had great success with this regimen

At first keep the amounts small... depending upon what you are feeding, it could take several days before the worms begin to consume any food you might add to the bin. You don't want to overwhelm them with too much at once (which is a great temptation for many of us when we first start a new worm bin) so wait until they begin feeding on what's already in the bin before adding more...otherwise the bin will begin to collect food faster than the worms can consume it and that's when strange stuff can begin to happen in the worm bin... smells, lots of molds, massive mites, alcohols, phenol, ammonia build-up etc. And as your herd grows, you will gradually be feeding more... but all this will take many months so be patient. Take your cues on when to feed from the worms and what's going on in the bin. Deposit all food from a single feeding into one location, thus giving the worms the rest of bin to escape to should something go wrong with that feeding. Next feeding pick another location... etc. etc. etc.

All my worm bins have long since been fully matured and so I feed them whenever our crockpot (we keep one just for kitchen scraps destined for the worms) gets too full or at the least once every two weeks (which ever happens first). If we don't have enough kitchen scraps from cooking, juicing, cleaning out the fridge, etc, then I will simply add some layer mash and alfalfa pellets along with new bedding (which is also worm food BTW).

Bottom line ....Don't try to feed on a ridged schedule some predetermine amount, instead let the worms be your guide and remember to start small and observe carefully, when what you've given them is being consume only then is it time to add more, any not sooner.

You have what amounts 1/2 lb of worms so I wouldnt feed anymore than that same amount and chop it up as small as you can.

It's not how much or how often,more so what's fed and inviromental conditions. Some foods lay untouched for days while decaying to the satisfaction of the herd,others are devoured right a way(melon).
