Erythroniums - lucky you. I would not move anything in your new home until you have lived there a full season and learned more about your plants. Who knows what else is lurking in there waiting to pop up.

Tulips?

No - they're 100% Erythroniums. The growth habit and leaf markings are unmistakable. aka Trout Lily. You can see the flower bud in a couple.

I defer to Floral. Next Spring I will have some erythroniums - a very pretty bulb. You might have a garden full of surprises- those are rather unusual.

Fantastic! I had no idea and had to look that one up. Thanks to your expert advice and knowledge, I'll leave them be. They seem happy where they are. Yes, we've had all kinds of surprises here, from snowdrops and daffodils everywhere and now this. The only thing I actually SP'd is lamb's ear. So glad I asked before moving these. Mine are at exactly that stage. When happy, erythronium colonies will double in size within 3 years or so. They are easily moved as soon as flowering is finished. Replant immediately.

My snail population loves Erythroniums. I wish mine had such healthy non-lacey foliage.

When they are happy, they are really excellent woodland bulbs. Mine have been a revelation, Flora. At home, I used to manage a couple of blooms for each bulb...sporadically. The ones I bought for the wood were Pagoda and White Beauty from Gedneys, a bit of a bargain bucket wholesale outfit...but the bulbs have been sterling - not a munch (from anything), last for weeks, with a good half-dozen blooms on every (pristine) plant. Deer ignore them (this is a hard lesson for me, with numerous casualties ). Snails, unbelievably, are not really an issue...although hosta are still deer fodder -I caved with the fragrant h.plantaginea...but failed - again.

Enjoy your bulbs, Sarah (they do look like Pagoda). They really are lovely...and knowing they are happy, there are some gorgeous species to explore.
