Would this rug color work? I love this rug but unfortunately, the manufacturer no longer makes it.

I think a round rug would be gorgeous in this space. If you feel you have the room, a nice round weathered black table with a vase of flowers would be lovely. An animal print or a damask would be a nice pattern for a rug. (The rugs with the damask print do come in a round).

Thank you Art! I just put the 4' round animal print rug in my cart. My entryway is not big enough to put your original idea to use, unfortunately. Could I still get that look by putting a small console table on the left wall under the light switch? What shape though? Rectangular? Demi-line? And btw, I love the idea of it being weathered black! Should I still go with my idea of putting the small or medium starbursts above? I have a big sunburst in my living room so not sure if that would be too repetitive. I love tour rug idea--I've been contemplating rugs for months so thanks for helping me check that off my list :-)

I think the round rug will look great! I might nix the idea of the starbursts, though. Won't they interfere with the light switches?

@Indomom, I can't move the switch since it's too much $ -- electrician said it would be hundreds to move o ER plus I would need to hire a painter to repair the wall afterwards. The sunburst idea was to place a few around the switch but I'm open to any other ideas or suggestions :-)

Oh, I wasn't suggesting moving the switches; that would be a nightmare. Maybe something art-y on the table to draw your eye there instead of to the switches? A basket or bowl for keys? Also, I'm not completely against the sunbursts. I'm terrible at visualizing, so they might be just fine. :)

If you would like a little drama, I would paint the inside of your door black (and side window frame) and then add a rectangle sisal or hemp rug. You can easily work around the light switch by using a bench and adding hooks above and around (see below). Foyer will be personal and interesting.

I would love to put a mirror or art but whatever size would fit would cover the switchplate :-( I feel like my only option would be some sort of collage of items. I am also terrible at visualizing ;-)

@Maureen, wow, I never thought of that but I do like the idea of painting the door and side window frames :-) I ordered the animal print round rug but I'm game to trying out the sisal one as well ;-) I will post a pic of the rugs when I get them :-)

I think a nice rectangular, open table, or one with shelving would be nice. Make sure the bottom has more of an open design to allow for the heat vent to still be accessible. That light switch is dead center. like @indomom suggests - something on the table to draw your attention. Maybe that tall vase like I suggested before? I love the style of the pail @maureen posted - now only if you could get it in a smaller, narrower version! I do love the round lay out on the floor, and love the other suggestions for materials. My only concern on the sisal is that they are really hard to maintain (my husband is in the rug restoration business), and sometimes sisal shrinks when it gets wet. Just something to think about. I can't wait to see what you come up with!

Would a console like this work?

Not sure if this is the style you guys hand in mind but I've been searching the everywhere online for a "transitional console table in black, no more than 32 inches" I seem to find a the majority are traditional. Rug is expected to arrive tomorrow :-)

Thoughts or visual suggestions for the console? TIA

I got the rug today and i think it looks too gray...this is the "camel/dark grey" color. I'm assuming I should return it and go for the warmer brown. I love the pattern but I thought the grey would go with more of the grey in my home...

EEEEK! Sorry, stacy_pon, but it looks kinda cheap. I don't think the warmer brown will work either. I don't find a circular shape to be all that serviceable for a front entry. MO.

I hear ya pat1250, not working for me either. I wasn't sure if it was the color or shape but I was game to try ;-) At $150 for a 4' round rug, I don't know if that's average price to pay but when I rolled it out, I wasn't like "Wow!" Lol

Too small for sure. Good try though! I think a rectangle woven wool/jute would feel more modern and see the dark grey in picture below. I have had one in my front hall and because they are inexpensive, I change it up every 2 years or so for a fresher replacement. Also have one in my kitchen and it is a work horse!

Yep, good try, but that's a no-go. I like the 2nd console you picked. I have a small console table in my entry and it has taken a lot of abuse. I didn't pay much for it, so it is definitely replaceable. Maybe spending more to get longer use is a good use of your money? I guess it will depend on the rug you choose, too. Sorry, not very helpful, I know.

I had suggested the bottom one, as you had referenced grey. These types of rugs can be found at many retailers and I live in Canada and know that Home Sense has some good selections. I got so excited about ordering the Surya animal print one that I didn't realize it was going to cost me $30 to return--ouch!
