I need console table help

I bought a console table to go behind my roll-arm couch. Iv'e bought almost all of our furniture online, sight unseen, and had great results until now. The table is exactly 1/2" taller than advertised, which makes it ever-so-slightly higher than our couch (by maybe 1/4"). The table has a marble slab top and it is heavy, and we had to destroy the packaging to get it out of the box and assemble it. The online retailer said I could return it (at my own cost) for a refund, but it doesn't seem worth it for a $300 table.

It really doesn't fit anywhere else and it's starting to grow on me, but it definitely needs some decoration. The original hope is that it would sit just below the back of the couch and primarily be a place to rest drinks (and be largely invisible most of the time,) but now I think it needs a big lamp or something if it's going to stay. See pics below- what are everyone's thoughts? Is it just too weird of a fit? It will literally end up in our shed if we don't use it in this room as it doesn't fit anywhere else in the house.

Don't try cutting legs. It is a good height for an end table. Try using it on end of sofa. It really isn't long enough for a proper sofa table anyway. Good luck. I think you will find a good use. Btw, better have good coasters. Marble will etch and stain.

I was thinking the same thing as Bailey R--Shorten the legs 1/4" to 1/2" and make it the correct size.

Bev and bailey- my husband is threatening to cut the legs although having a professional do so seems a wiser choice (he doesnt actually know how to cut metal). Do you guys think it's too terrible as is? It came a week ago and the pain is wearing off but I'm pictures it reminds me of how it's juuuuuuust slightly too tall.

Looks like it has metal legs so shortening may not be an option. A place to sit drinks is not behind the sofa but in front -- think Coffee table. Sorry.

I agree with Flo. It's not the height that's off, it's the length.

do you even need one behind the sofa? Just my opinion but a sofa table works best when back of sofa is open to the room

I thought it looked okay when I saw the pictures you posted above. But when I went to your website and viewed the entire room, I do think it will look odd at the height it is. But what a pretty room- I really love your use of color!

Your window treatment is really going to determine the look. If you use floor-to-ceiling drapes, the table size will be fine.

A couple options come to mind. You say that there is no where else it will fit. Have you tried it to the right of the fireplace? It seems like it would look great there based on your photos on tumbler. The other option would be to somehow raise the sofa by a small amount. The current legs are very short and it might be possible to switch them out. As a trial you could stack a couple felt pads to see if you like it.

Also, what make is your foyer light. I love it!

If you can, try to use it as a side table somewhere or maybe sell it? It doesn't seem to be the right fit behind the couch. Refer to our design below for some inspiration on how to use it as a side table (with decor).

jbtanyderi we plan to do not floor to ceiling drapes, but floor length for sure. That's the next hurdle!

Tracy Meyer we were thinking in that spot to the right of the fireplace. The weird thing is that it's deeper than the chimney stack, so it will stick out a little bit. I also thought about putting a narrow bookshelf there.

The entry light is a knockoff of this Tom Dixon! Tom Dixon Etch, large I saw it in person somewhere and fell in love, then found a knockoff because I couldn't afford the real one. No shame in this game...

hellenlee7410 the couch is from Joybird (chairs and ottoman, too!) I am VERY happy with our purchases from there and will likely order some more pieces. Shipping does take forever, but the prices are good and the quality is great.
