Need help with coffee table/ottoman decision!!!

I need to get a coffee table/ottomans for our family room but can't decide what to get. I need something kid friendly so we were thinking leather. Thoughts? Anything you can seen that might look good?

Funny, I just had this very discussion with my interior designer who has been in the business for 25 years so her advise was sage.
She's having a 45" tufted ottoman made for me. The fabric that it will be made of is chenille as it wears like iron. We're placing a big tray on on to hold decorative items and at night when we're reading and watching Tv we'll take the tray off. The beauty of it is worth the extra fuss taking it on and off, but that's me. As for the leather, love leather....she said, no leather for the ottoman because it scratches easily from cats, kids, dogs and shoe heels. In one year it will look worn out and you've paid a lot of money for the leather. If you like leather, buy 2 or 3 leather pillows.

i think the room could benefit from tables or ottomans that have a slightly heavier scale than what you have proposed.

The seating looks a little formal for a family room; "Sit up straight, junior!" I'd want a glass top coffee table so that rug could show through. How many people there must absolutely have a footstool? Perhaps a pair of multi-purpose cubes for storage, adult footstool or kid's seat.

I just ordered these for my house. They will be my coffee table and serve to put my feet up for 3 people if we are watching a movie in the great room. Maybe a white storage ottoman like you see here in a design project of ours? It might work well in your room considering you said it needs to be kid friendly.

I suggest a round ottoman in a color that will go with your other decor. My daughter, when she was around 2, came running into my bedroom, tripped and fell, hitting the corner of my night stand cutting her head open. Most coffee tables will be a hazard to young children where a padded, round ottoman will be cushy without sharp edges.

We have a round ottoman with chenille fabric and I have to agree with Secludede, it does wear like iron! We have 3 kids and a large dog and it has held up beautifully!

Love your furniture and rug:) Have you made any decisions? I envision something darker for your coffee table...wood, leather, performance velvet or microfiber.

They are from Gabby Home. It's the Liam chair. Mine swivel but you can also get the ones that don't swivel and have legs. Check out their website.

If this is a family room for watching TV, than I love the idea of an ottoman so people can put their feet up. You're on the right track with a leather ottoman - easy to clean and will never go out of style. Something like this but in rectangle:
