Cheap "art"

Just sharing this as sometimes people here are looking for art ideas! I saw this framed print on a web site and thought it was neat, especially because DH and DD are big fans of Roald Dahl and read all his books together when DD was younger. But this was $400 for a 2' x 3' print -- I wouldn't spend that much for something like this, and wouldn't want it that large either.

So I started thinking, I bet I could DIY something like this. And I did! I just played around with different fonts until I was happy, and printed it on beige paper. I'll get a frame for it, but for now here it is. It could be done on fancier paper, or in a different color ink. (Just realized I didn't indent my paragraph...oops.)

Nicely done! Another bunch of Dahl fans down here.

Oh, that gives me another idea. We had a reading from The Velveteen Rabbit at our wedding...I should find it and do the same thing with part of the reading!

Soon my walls will be littered with quotes...

Love the Velveteen Rabbit quote. Might steal it for my granddaughter's room.

nice idea. btw the Velveteen Rabbit one is one of my long time favorites

I did something similar several years ago, made a print with a colored background and font and mat..gloomy purples plus muted gold..with a quote from a song I listened to a lot then..it's in French, and is performed by Chat. I made it as a temporary thing to display during a theme party we had in our home. Yet I still love it. I took it from the spot of central display after the party, and put it somewhere where mostly i can see it.

I usually hate inspirational quotes when everybody's got the same one; something that's meaningful to you though, in a very special way, is a different thing though.

I normally don't like quotes as art, the mass produced kind anyway, but making it personal is different. Great idea!

I've often seen free graphics you can download on Pinterest if you want to embellish the quotes.

I 've seen on different blogs where you can enlarge the prints, using different fonts, etc. and then send to Kinkos, Staples, etc. and have printed in larger sizes (if you wanted) and of course, a variety of paper/finishes.

I wanted to add this sort of "art" to the grandchildren's playroom here at our house and came up with these two.

    These are both vinyl "stick-ons."

Another easy and original item is to get a mint-sheet of special issue postage stamps. I got the sheet of Noguchi stamps when issued in 2004, and simply used a glass floating frame. Looks great. (Sorry, can't take a picture.)

Great suggestion re favorite book quotes.

Also really like old family recipes framed or maybe printed on kitchen towels or Wedding invitations framed.

    Love those stamps!

I did this with a quote from Apple's Think Different campaign. I used a map as a background and played around with different text and had it printed on a custom tile.

Here was the quote I used:

Here's to the crazy ones, the misfits, the rebels, the troublemakers, the round pegs in the square holes ... the ones who see things differently -- they're not fond of rules, and they have no respect for the status quo. ... You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them, but the only thing you can't do is ignore them because they change things. ... They push the human race forward, and while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius, because the people who are crazy enough to think that they can change the world, are the ones who do.

Sueb20 - I know this is dated, but I have a grandbaby on the way!! Do you recall the font you used? It is perfect and I can't seem to find it in Word.

So sorry, I have no idea! I just scrolled through the fonts until I found one I liked!
