I would start by adding a railing to the stoop and the sides of the ramp. It would be no good at all to have someone slip off the edge in their chair.

Are you looking for paint colours too or only landscaping help?

There is no chair slope isn't as big as it looks. I was thinking about painting the bricks in front white or gray. Planting small shrubs or daylillies, hosta, I don't know azalea, or snowballs maybe a new light fixture with numbers. And taking down the yellow sign. This is a little lakefront cabin. Thought maybe next year we would landscape in front of the planters in the front of the house. Don't know weather to keep the gray or use a Navy.because it's walk out basement the sides show. Love to paint the front door and shutters. I just don't know what to do. I want to save money on the front cause we live out back.

I would not paint the brick. Just makes it harder to maintain, and if you are planting in front of it it won't show anyway.

Choose drought-resistant, low maintenance perennials. Who wants to water plants at the lake ;)

I'd do mounding spillers like lobelia and creeping jenny to soften the edges of the planters, with tulips for spring colour and something easy-care and casual for summer. Marigolds are a super durable choice and they come in lots of colours ranging from lemony yellow to maroon.

You might have some surprises come up in your garden in spring :)

Tall planted evergreens at each side of front door

Here's are two white houses with a gray roofs--no shutters--which give them a modern yet cottage-y look due to well-planned landscaping. You could do the same--come up with a plan of fairly easy maintence perennials, low shrubs, ground cover, grasses for that whole right side of the house with window boxes adding interest. Love the suggested idea of two tall columnar bushes by the door--maybe two on the right side for that expanse. A small nursery can help you with a plan.

Deal with the larger lawn next year so you can get to know your house and enjoy a mini garden and your lake first! Paint your planters black as well as window boxes if you add them.

To accentuate the planters perhaps a wooden border across top of brick..perhaps painted to match shutters...since you have a symmetrical curb appeal...I would recommend keeping some balance with a few evenly spaced evergreens ..with a nice open spaces for summer annuals...for color and drama in the summer

Any color you like will work on the shutters and door...however the white on the sidewalk may need to be changed to a nice medium green like the trees in your photo..to avoid dirt and mown grass stains...and all of the things that will blow in the wind..
Since you are surrounded by greenery in the summer it might be good to bring in a real shot of color for the shutters and door...also a strong color shot with annuals that match...maybe bright yellow trim...with tons of yellow petunias in the summer...lots of impact and petunias grow like weeds with only a little regular attention to watering...drips are foolproof if you will only be there on the weekends.
This will give the curb appeal drama without being fussy while still being very low maintenance...leave the more interesting and more intricate plantings out back where you can enjoy and nurture them in a more leisurely setting

If you have children and a more playful spirit the sidewalk could become an art project for the kiddies...turn them loose with a few little cans of paint...to give then some entitlement to the fun you can have here...you can always paint the a solid color later

Take your pix to a local nursery and get help selecting low maintenance plants that do well in your local climate. Fill the planter beds with those. Then plant your two box planters with thriller, filler, spiller plants that will do well in full sun for a bit of wow!
