Hi. Introduction

Hey everyone. I've been lurking for a while, and finding my way with indoor plants while adding to my plant collection. I've lost a few here and there - couple crotons (forget the species) and one small fiddle leaf fig.

What I want to do now is come as close to perfecting my skills and expanding my knowledge base as I can. I know going into this, I need to learn the basics. I taught myself everything so far, and I'm sure I've gained good and bad info along the way.

Some background on me -

I was a certified Arborist here in Massachusetts for 7 years. I was lucky enough to work on various types of projects, properties, and scenarios. I was doubly lucky to work for a forward thinking, and educationally advanced company. I gained incredible experience and knowledge through networking and pushing myself to always learn more. Indoor plants have intrigued me, but stumped & scared me at the same time!

I try to employ a natural approach indoors, as I had used outdoors for years. I fertilize with Neptune's Harvest, and when I repot or need more soil, I've been using Coast of Maine (Pink bag) potting soil. I have some minor fungus gnats, and if I can't get rid of them with bottom only watering and letting the top dry out, I'll turn to IPM solutions before chemicals are ever considered.

Plants I own (and brief notes)

- Various air plants (have good luck, would like to learn how to make them flower)

- 2 african violets 4" pots (one doesn't flower any longer)

- Dracaena marginata 10" pot (does great, has 3 stems. Can I divide?) (Always has brown leaf tips)

- Prayer plants Maranta 4" pots (these do good)

- Ficus lyrata 10" pot (moody SOB. I *think* I've figured out water and light for it)

- Ponytail Palm Beaucarnea 8" pot (only had for 1 month)

- Chinese evergreen red Aglaonema 6" pot (only had for 1 month)

- Corn plant Dracaena fragrans 10" pot & 6' tall (does great!)

- 3 Sansevieria 8" pots ranging from 2'-4' in height (all do great!)

- Fernwood Sansevieria 6" pot (cat knocked him over, he was loose as if his root crown broke. Hasn't flowered in a year, but has put out 2 new pups. Would like to transplant one of the pups!)

- Peace Lily Spathiphyllum 12" pot (does good in a South Window this winter, wondering if he can survive the summer here?)

- Sweet Olive Osmanthus 4" pot (lost leaves at first due to wrong light. South window now and loving life. He's an indoor plant, and one of my favorites!)

- Crown of thorns 4" pot not sure on species (1 week old, yet to be seen what he does. South window)

- Lucky bamboo in water/rocks 4" pot (does great, rebounding from a cat eating all of his leaves off)

- Sago Palm Cycas Revoluta 8" large glass jar (does good. One frond is yellowing, Im guessing too much water)

- Pothos vine 6" pot (does great, no issues)

That's my intro!
