Start at about $1000 per foot as a beginning. It goes up from there.

Here it would not be $1000 a foot, but it would be custom. I did two pieces of straight railing similar to this , about 5 feet total and it was more like $250-300 a foot, and I live in a relatively HCOLA--but there are a number of metal fabricators.

How was it finished? Was that an installed price? I'm talking high wearability powder coating and installed.

Is this a new or existing stair?

The photo is a poor example since such tight winders are no longer allowed and create an awkward if not dangerous drop in the railing at the turn.

My stairs are the entry in a split entry. I need an angled railing going up 6 steps and then a railing overlooking the entry. A straight piece 9 feet long. My steps don't turn.

Installed and finished in a spray booth, not powder coated. These were landing railings not handrails, per se. 5 or 6 horizontal rails. Templated to be level because the floor was not.

When such custom installs are done in my area, building inspection will require the whole thing be covered with an approved transparent material as the openings fail to meet Code.

My first estimate from a fabricator came in at $4200 installed. Still waiting on a couple more.

For the original picture, the cables would be sufficient in my area as well, except for the open stringer triangle areas, which are too large. The design would need a closed stringer, or a different design at the attachment point in order to decrease the opening size.

For Worthy's design, now, that is an artisan produced product! Totally not my style, but I appreciate the craftsmanship that went into it. I'm afraid that the OP's $4200 quote is thin, poor quality steel, poorly welded, and poorly finished, and minus the cables. The details matter. Especially for safety.

Knew I saw that design before--with a lovely accoutrement!

Oh, I know it's 6" for the stringer area, but that design doesn't have enough attachments to the tread to pass that 6" rule. The treads without an attachment would easily pass a 6" ball.
