We make progress! (with pics)

This is purely an update for all the kind folk who have gotten me and my trees so far in barely 6 weeks. (Background: I spent 4 years staring woefully at my citrus which had no flowers at all, and then within a couple of weeks of fertilizing (AS one teaspoon once a week, and Jack's professional, five gallons of water with 5 teaspoons of fertilizer once a week, Protekt and dyna-gro purchased but yet to be applied) I saw an immediate and huge difference.

One tree had a dramatic growth flush (but no buds so far) , the other two had no flush, but first one, then two, and now, nearly a couple dozen buds!! The leaves are still showing signs of pests, CLM, scale and black aphids. Have sprayed with neem and spinosad, with no visible improvement.

However, I wanted to update you all on the progress made. Thank you so much for the advice on feeding, and while I have loads to learn, I am amazed at how much of a difference even a few weeks have made!

(first two pics are of the plant I think is a Meyer, the second two might be an navel orange, and the third, which i haven't taken pictures of, but is the one with the growth flush and no buds, might be a lime. I bought a lime, a lemon and an orange, and I see no tags, and I can't recall what order I planted them in!)

kcandmilo: your Mexican Sweet Lime could be "Lima Dolce" - or Mary Ellen Sweet Lime. the UCR site has the description. Interesting flavor.

My small [MESL] tree just produced its first half dozen fruit this past season. I did not care for them much until they were fully ripe, ...mid / late February. And then, the comments came back, "wow - like apple"! Made for some great cocktails!

Always nice to get an update, it helps us all learn.

I think it takes a while to see results from neem, since it doesn't kill on contact but rather affects reproduction.

Thanks, Amanda, I know you have seen my plaintive posts last month! It has been raining again this week, pretty hard last night, and I think the trees are really soaking up the water and food, poor starved things!

Yeah I can't wait to get my trees out into a good spring rain! There is just something special about rain for plants! Its borderline magical when it comes to growth haha

I just noticed how red your new growth is! Its so healthy im jealous! A little of my tender new growth on my meyer is injured from cold. I had it sitting by the back door in the sun and my son opened the door for 10 minutes with it being 10 degrees outside! Shriveled 3 new baby leaves. hahaha. He is 3 yrs old. What can I do? Snow calls to kids haha. I am glad that cold snap is over!

Well, I crawled around and found two tags! The first tree is labelled Mexican Sweet Lime, and I have absolutely no recollection of wanting or buying that! I wonder if I bought the wrong one by mistake! The darker leaved tree is Meyers Improved. The third with the growth flush must be the Navel orange then! If this helps for future advice, at least I know what I have!

Molewacker, when you say fully ripe are they yellow? I am very curious about sweet limes, and while I know most people in the US find them insipid I still want to try one.

Sammers: Yes, fully ripe for my Bearss and Persian and MESL and Millsweet - is fully yellow exterior. The Millsweet and MESL are yellow inside while the Bearss (Persian) is tinted light green. For me, the nose/aroma improved greatly when the MESL fully ripened.
