We are building a home and are currently trying to pick out door and window casing. We are wanting to the house to have a historic feel to it, so we have picked out designs and architecture that was popular hundreds of years ago. We are now at the point of picking out the interior trim, and finding something that will work and also fits in our budget has been challenging. Most folks around here are using trim that is smaller than we are looking for.

We will have some doors/windows that will use a 5" casing, and other areas (closets, laundry, etc.) that will be smaller. How do I coordinate those two sizes? Should the trim be identical in style, just different sizes, or is it OK to use a different profile? Obviously you don't want to clash the two profiles, but do they have to be identical?

Here is a pic (see below) of the big profile we are leaning toward. I had to piece this together from two different pieces. One option for the smaller profile would be to just use the 3-/2 piece as the total piece. However, I can't decide if that will make it look like we forgot to put the 2nd piece on.
