updating cedar walls

any ideas on what to do with staircase and cedar walls? husband says leave it as is, i say new staircase and either paint cedar or rip it out.

oh all that on fireplace was just put there before it went out the door. when i get everything completely out i will send a pic. no offense taken that why all that is out the door

are these photos of your items, or listing pics from previous owners?

i am a painter of wood, but i'd say right now it matches your decor well, you have a very woodsy/country vibe with the wooden wheel, etc. were you planning to really change your fireplace/mantel decor?

it is mine, but am tired of the look. built in 85 , havent done much changebto it since then other than a coat of paint here and there. just think it all needs change.

men can be very resistant to painting any wood, its something to do with that y chromosome. i'd remove the decor that doesnt interest you any more, put up what your personality reflects now, and then decide if painting the wood is something you want to move forward on.

I think the bones are good, and paint would completely update your staircase.

very true. guessing this is just a country house and may have to work with it. maybe i just need to build a new one from scratch...

would you think changing the spindles out to an iron would look better? or should i just paint. what color if so?

Take every nick nack, candle everything out. Look at the room and decide what do I want to start over with. Do I like a cleaner look? Can I rearrange this? No offense meant but much of what you have for decor looks like it is from the 80's. You have been looking at the same things for too long, and adding more nick nacks candles is not the change you are craving. Your home and the wood are beautiful. Start over with a clean slate.
