Rye grass is a cool season grass so will die out when it gets hot consistently.Are you sure the other grasses in other yards is rye grass? Rye grass and other grasses looks similar

Wouldn't it take awhile for the rye grass to start dying out / bermuda coming in transition? I just haven't seen ANY yards change at all except mine. Also, it's like 20% of my overall grass that's looking bad - not all so I would just assume if the heat is simply killing it as it's hot in AZ that it would kind of consistently go. Perhaps it just needs more water as it's warming up and that 20% just happens to be my "dry" spots?

At this point, don't you want the rye to die off so the bermuda can fill in?

If the bermuda will start coming in then yes by all means. Just afraid it's too early for bermuda so I'll be in this 1-2 month period of having a trashy looking yard.

What are your Temps? The rye can shade the bermuda as well as slowing it's growth at the roots--IT may be why the bermuda hasn't perked up yet

It's exceeded 90 during the day a few times already. Mid 50s overnight.

Were still in the 80s in Houston but my bermuda is in full growth. It's time for yoir rye to go & I bet the bermuda will perk right up. Rye can't survive those Temps

That's the reality of overseeding. Especially if you overseeded thickly and fertilize too much in order to have a lush winter lawn, the rye grows over-lushly, dies early and leaves thick patches of dead stuff on the Bermuda. And that either delays the Bermuda's greening up or kills it in patches.

It's a common practice, but it is bad for the Bermuda grass.

The other yards may have a different watering schedule, fertilized differently.
