Gray or blue island ? Many inspirational pic says Hale Navy BM but my sample looks way darker. So do I just play it safe and pick the whale gray for island, if I can't find the right blue?

I would choose the blue I like the high contrast.

I wish I'd listened to myself and done my kitchen in blue. Instead, I listened to my husband and went with 'classic.' I love it, but I loved the blue, too.

Yes my husband says no blue too. I am just afraid it will look blah. The island is so pretty that I think it would make a beautiful statement if I can find the right tone.

Are your cabinets staying wood color? Just checking. In any case, go with the blue. The gray doesn't do a lot for the wood.

Go blue.......there are tons of blue paint colors, you just need to find the right one. I think gray cabs and gray island would look drab.

Your inspirational photo has a lot of natural light which makes the blue pop, your kitchen does not appear to have that nice big window allowing in light-find a lighter brighter blue. I do believe your worse fear photo will be closer to how the island will end up being otherwise. The blue is fun and will gorgeous with your cabinet color, you just need to find the right shade for you!

The deep blue island will look gorgeous with the wood cabinets and white countertop! The blue is a bit of fun but not over the top while still keeping that classic and timeless look that your husband is desiring.

In my opinion blue looks best in bright, cool light, such as lots of natural light. Otherwise it can look dark and muddy, as you fear. So think about the lighting your island receives.

OP, we almost went with Hale Navy for our kitchen. After getting a bunch fo swatches, we ended up going with BM Abyss- this is what it looks like in daylight. Also, our walls are BM Owl Gray (you can see it above the cabinets)

We painted our entire parlor floor Owl Gray and I will say that when it was first done i really disliked it- it looked mint green to me under medium wattage bulbs and against the blue cabinets. We switched out the bulbs to a higher wattage and then the backsplash went in it looks way better- the backplash is teal so it ties it together. I was thisclose to having them repaint though when I first saw the color on the walls, even after seeing swatches. Something to be aware of.

Her shop looks closed at the moment but she's been posting on instagram a bunch, so she'll probably be back soon! Those are two Harlow lamps in nickle finish with clear globes. We got almost all of the accent lights in our house from her- the only other brand we used was Flos for the chandelier in the parlor and one sconce. Truthfully, the quality from Triple Seven was as good as all of the large-production stuff we bought, and the price was amazing. Not to hijack this thread- I was just really happy with everything we got from Triple Seven!
