Update on the seedlings and a question

Only 6 of the 12 seeds germinated and they are doing good :)

My question is.....

Why are most of the caudex turning the bronze color? All but the smallest one has that coloring and I'm sure it too will probably turn to bronze. Is it possible to be from too much sun/heat?

The tallest one (first one to germinate) is a little over 2". I'm so excited!

Jeannie, don't worry about the colour on the caudex of your babies, it is completely normal, it is not from too much sun. The ones with a jade green stem usually grow to be white/or light coloured flowers or yellow flowers. The jade green coloured ones will also change & develop some colour to their caudex as they get abit bigger (but they are still likely to turn out to be light/white coloured flowers). I usually like to label the jade green ones now, so that I know which ones they are later, as once they get bigger it will be difficult to distinguish between them based on their colour. Keep up the good work with your seedlings & let them enjoy some sun. Mine get filtered sun for about 6hrs a day now. Here is a photo of some I am growing to show you that mine are also bronze coloured & jade green. Rachel :)

There's a blurb somewhere on KO's sure that says that the green caudexes will bloom white.

Your seedlings look totally fine to me and I would not be to concerned by the color change. I have seen the same on my seedlings. Some are light green overall, others developed a brown, bronze or even reddish like trunk.

How do you pot those up once they are large enough to put in their own pot? Won't the roots all be tangled together? Thanks, Jeannie :)

Hi Jeannie, I will repot these when they are a bit bigger/fatter, & will use a plastic spoon to scoop underneath the roots to help lift them out. Usually the roots aren't tangled together, because at this age they tend to grow more down then out. I hope you can understand what I mean. They are in a light soil/perlite mix with just a top dressing of the small grit that you can see on top in the photo. I have a lot of years experience with growing seed, so I don't worry anymore about handling or repotting issues. You will gain confidence with more practise too. :)

Btw I quite often grow mine in individual containers like yours. This time I just wanted to group them together. I thought they might like the company. ...Giggle... :D

My adeniums with the green caudexes actually are my favorites. The jade green is just really pretty.
