Tile underneath cabinets and Windows, not overhead. Clock wall you could paint a similar color or tile all the way up. I like the hexagon tiles, beautiful kitchen!

I'm not a huge fan of the white on white on white look in kitchens. It often tends to look rather anemic. I would definitely consider some mild to medium contrast with the backsplash. It can still be considered a "safe choice", I don't think it means going wild :). Perhaps a similar marble as the countertop would be the safest not all white look.

I normally like to take the tile all the way up around the window, but since your space is so narrow, I might stop it at the cabinet line. would depend on what tiles you've picked. for a smooth, seamless look you could go all the way up and also do the inside of the window if you prefer.

this photo has a very narrow space like yours.

As for tile, I like the herringbone the best, but any of these could also work.

Hi Kate, based on your area, I would use the herringbone for all of backsplash and the "clock" wall; end at cabinet ht by your window and do not tile the window return.

My favorite one is the herringbone one.
Stop the tile underneath the cabinet.
For the edges around the window you could use plastic tile trim to give it a nice modern finish.
Some people love the tile pencils. See which one you like best.
No tile on the clock wall or on the side of the clock wall.
Ok this is just a suggestion (I have nothing against your clock that is nice)
What about book ledges instead of the clock.

Hi Bere and thanks for the rug mention, I just had it and it seemed to work in the space. As I mentioned I have shelves on the other side of the opening. I like the herringbone the best myself of these options.
